The universities aren't excellent mate, sorry, they're very good but not where the mega-rich send their children.

The grouse moors aren't anything better than elsewhere and the stables way behind Newmarket, etc.

I'd imagine my experience on the NE will be much the same as yours and yes of course theres more to the NE than 'grim up north' but it's not where the extremely rich want to be.

Sorry but I've spent the last 20 years working for them and they barely know where it is.
In your experience. My experience is different.

Had a quick look at the comments on there (I'm really bored) and have to say, WTF!?

The overriding theme seems to be "people who are attending are traitors because they're lining Ashley's pockets". Are they really that stupid that they don't realise he gets the money from the season tickets whether or not they actually go... Beyond thick <doh>

Also, my favourite comment has to be this little pearl:

They still haven't learned to spell <laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <doh>

Casually overlooking the fact they’d be giving him yet more free advertising of course <laugh>

Lets see how he deals with the fans..... The Fans despise Ashley and Ashely has just given (probably) Bruce the job he has craved. Its a minefield for him...LOL :)

That's quite correct and something I've said for years.

The world has changed massively and sometimes in ways we don't even consider.

We may love the NE, I know I do, but beautiful empty beaches, Hadrians Wall and friendly locals have absolutely zero appeal for the foreign wife of a millionaire mercenary player. They want glamour and that's something we just don't have. Owners want somewhere they can take their guests and family when they pop in for a match, there's virtually nothing for them. They certainly don't want a city centre full of stags & hens or a seafront with people fishing off the pier.

Both clubs have to literally bribe players to come and, as soon as the novelty wears off, the wags are wanting away.

It's all over for the NE clubs I'm afraid and both Short & Ashley recognised that and wanted out. Neither could find buyers because the amounts needed to 'push on' are too big.

Ashley is faced with spending multi millions on the ground/facilities then huge amounts more to creak into the top half for virtually no reward. I've no idea who'll buy the club or why tbh.

As I said the world has changed and we're the ex-industrial North whichever way you dress it up.
As you know, I’m not from the area but I do live there now so my perspective is probably different to most. I guess I’d be the same about york although I remember reality hitting me at university when a lot of my fellow students hadn’t heard of york at all. Not all of them were from abroad <laugh>.

With regards to ownership. Given that other clubs are likely to spend, your need to throw 500million plus the purchase of the club for it to break into the top 8 in my opinion. Leicester and Everton are miles ahead and then there’s wolves and Watford etc. My main beef with Mike is he doesn’t even spend the money the club generates. I know he doesn’t have to and can run the club how he wants however commercially we are very poorly run. Revenues have gone down. It’s sky money that keeps us in profit (fair enough I guess). He is running the club badly but I guess I would say that. 2 relegations in 10 years is bad. Looking at a third this season too.

You’re spot on. Sadly the north east, as lovely as it is, lags behind the rest of the country. Cornwall being the other one i guess. Look at the northern powerhouse. Newcastle is shunted while Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Hull all benefit. That’s a big indicator for me. Although I believe the metro system is getting an upgrade. It might go from unfit for use to just incompetent ha.

Be canny funny if he resigned and Sir Mike changed his mind cos of the compensation.

Then they got Pardew back.

Make it happen gods of comedy.
I’d double my donation to your charity to prevent me from drinking myself to an early grave <laugh>

What does Bruce have to worry about tbh.

He knows he's an average manager and an ugly fat man who looks equally bad in a dress suit or a track suit.

He has absolutely no shame and says anything that suits him, anything.

... what can anyone say to him that'll bother him?

Yo can make case for almost anywhere mate.

Bristol has an airport, university, bustling port & nightlife, two and a half hours drive from London and less than two on the train.

It has the Cotswolds and the Mendips on its doorstep, there's shopping centres, etc, etc, etc and it owns its own 27,000 seater stadium with room to increase it.

Would the mega-rich buy it?

Tbf mate, why should we make the effort when they regularly humiliate themselves ....

"I think Ashley has done a great job personally."
<laugh>

Besides they'd reply with their inevitable handful of infantile little 'jokes' they always do ...

... repetition is the highest form of humour on the Mag board.

I think you'll find we're both a bit guilty of that. Your lot keep providing us with ammo, we're reluctantly reciprocating at the moment. You're gonna go into meltdown when Bruce is appointed, and so will we probably.

Wouldn't even be on my list, never mind 5th or 6th choice for Ashley. Won't stop me supporting my team though, I might not like it but **** all I can do about it!

The funny thing about this is that we would be happier having Pardew back than having Bruce take over. Or maybe that's Mike's plan all the long, link us with someone so horrific to imagine being in charge that we're eternally grateful to him for promoting Shola to the role.

This all coincides nicely with season tickets going on general sale today.

What are you, the self elected spokesman for the Newcastle board?

One thing I'm not guilty of is running back to my board begging for help when I've had my arse kicked.

Honestly man, stick to fighting your own battles and speaking for yourself.

:emoticon-0118-yawn:, can't recall ever doing that but if it makes you feel better for saying it then crack on.

Let me ask you this then.

Why is Bruce such a bad appointment? Rafa was some kind of god (he ****ing wasn’t, he’s a failed chequebook manager with a long history of leaving clubs in a worse place than he found them, but I digress...), yet Bruce, a manager with as much if not more solid jobs as failed one, from the area, supporter, love for the club, is a disaster?

I haven’t seen anyone justify the reasons for Bruce being a shambles yet. His last season, Villa laboured, yeah, but he torpedoed Sheff Wed to the verge of the playoffs.

He took teams up and kept many up, gave us a top 10 finish, brought big name players to Birmingham and Sunderland.

What makes you lot think he’s beneath you? A genuine question? Beneath a club down twice in last 5 years, with no direction, who’s key player, a loanee, has ****ed off.

Why is Bruce a farcical appointment?

Your answer....

Delusions of grandeur.
