I disagree. Homer started off life with us in a piss poor side last season, it was only as we looked to bring in reinforcements his form improved. I like him, I think there's a good footballer there, he has had good goal returns at this level before with QPR, and I think he'll do it again. He needs to be played in a settled side straight up the middle. Good luck Homer our loss will be Millwalls gain I reckon.
That's exactly it Tommy. Until it is in black and white that Jay Simpson has signed for Millwall (either loan or perm) then all we are going off what two newspapers have printed.
Another bit of the problem was that when he first got here we often played 4-5-1 with him as the 1 - a thankless task that probably knocked his confidence. Shame to see him go, but we're now starting to get a bit top heavy with strikers. He'll do alright with a fresh start wherever that is.
I think Simpson may well become a good striker, but all this talk about him been dropped soon as he hit form is rubbish he had 2 lucky/good games last season and that was it and I think that was more down to Stewart then Simpson
I'm not knocking Fryatt, I'm just defending Simpson who IMO is being treat a little bit unfairly. Before the season started, nearly everyone agreed that Simpson was good and should start alongside Fryatt. He's played one full game and a couple of sub appearances since then where he missed chances, but in the very same games as Fryatt missed equally good chances. The games which Simpson seems to have been judged on are ones where he was no worse than Fryatt, and yet he is still the first name on the team sheet. I'm willing to accept NP's judgement that Fryatt is worth starting every game, but you can't do that and kick Simpson out at the same time, when they've both played equally poorly at the same times this season.
When Simpson finally hit form he was dropped, we haven't really seen him since. All seems a bit strange, but I definitely wouldn't get rid.
If scoring 4 goals in 2 games isn't 'form' then what the **** is? I'd love any of our current strikers to look like scoring 2 a game. He scored because he was played up front with another striker and not as a lone striker.
He wasn't dropped as soon as he hit form?! He was dropped because he is rubbish. 3 of the 4 goals where tap ins, and 1 was a penalty. Fryatt is 100x better and with Waghorn we will be feared again.
Agree with the comments that he is no good in a 4-5-1, in the right formation and if his head is right he is a handy player
