He was selected for England because about half a dozen of the alternatives were unavailable. Sancho is deemed beyond it, Hudson-Odoi is going to play for Ghana, Greenwood is obvious issue, Carvalho picked Portugal, Sessegnon was injured and Smith Rowe was with seniors.
If you read other clubs twitter/forums after a game, the vast majority absolutely rave about KLP so I'm not sure it is purely us bigging him up because he's from Hull.
Which is like saying Hull City were lucky to reach the FA Cup Final when we did and also lucky to reach the PL when we did. KLP was picked for England Under 21's because he is a good player, not because there was no-one else.
KLP has played every minute of the season. For a winger to never have been substituted once is incredible. Rather suggests he's not been as bad as some are making out.
I'm pretty sure he was selected for the u21s based on a little more then that and nobody is suggesting otherwise. But there are more the a few young players with great potential that get pick for the u21s who dont go on to reach their full potential. But don't let that fact get in the way of you posting pointless comments looking for a like And it also doesn't change the fact if he wasn't a local lad, fans/local media wouldn't be bigging him up as much
Not sure anyone has said he's been bad have they? Just that he's got a way to go to be a top top player and ATM is a little predictable to play against for a good defender. Also not being subbed once possibly has a fair bit to do with how poor our options have been from the bench as even the most die hard KLP fan can admit there has been games this season where he could have been subbed with absolutely no complaints. Some people really do like to twist things on here if you opinions don't follow the popular view.
Sancho was never in the U21's, he went straight into the first team at 18 (three years ago), he's obviously not up for consideration now.
Not at all. We reached the PL because we finished in the top 2/won the play-offs. It wasn't like we finished 7th but the top 6 had points deductions. Nobody is saying he isn't a good player, but there were other factors why he got an England u21s call up and had just 1 of the situations I mentioned not happened, he wouldn't have got a call up. Bowen on the other hand was majorly unfortunate not to receive a call. I seem to remember they favoured Jack Harrison at the time but he deserved a chance. That's a long standing pet peeve of mine as he should still drop to the 21s. When you aren't selected for the seniors and you're still eligible for the 21s, you should play for the 21s.
Longman, who plays the same position and has been compared favourably to KLP in this thread because of his minutes per goal record, is regularly either substituted or starts on the bench. Longman's a good player, yet KLP is so highly regarded by the management that they play him every minute of every game. This thread about Bowen from December 2019, a month before he left for West Ham, has all the same kinds of comments as people are now making about KLP: https://www.not606.com/threads/bowen.380318/ Some City fans just can't seem to accept when one of our players is really good.
KLP was pretty average yesterday when playing before some PL scouts, that much is true. Good. As a result he’s marginally more likely to stay with us next season and propel us into the top half and maybe higher still.
But in Bowen's last season with us, he got 16 goals and 7 assists in 29. He was clearly way too good for the Championship. Lots of PL clubs had reservations about him though and his pace was a concern at the top level. But as has been said, Bowen's desire to improve is why he's the player he is now There's streets of difference between the Bowen that left us and the player KLP is now.
Bowen was a better player than KLP at this age. I don't think that's up for debate really. Was Bowen unfortunate to get an u21s call-up? Yes, obviously. Was Keano fortunate to get one? Yes, don't think anyone can argue with that.
Yet again who'd said he isn't a good player and doesn't have the potential to be a very good player? He just isn't as good as some make him out to be or he thinks he is yet.
Who are these “some” that you refer to? And what are they saying about KLP? You appear to be trying to deconstruct an argument that hasn’t been made. Which is why you are, and apologies for the terminology, coming across like a bit of a twat.
He's too old to play in the next U21's tournament and he's got 23 full England caps, dropping him to the U21's now is neither realistic, or desirable.
You don’t really develop that instinct, it’s either there or not. Bowen always had it, KLP doesn’t unfortunately.
I've been called worse so don't worry, "some" as in people on here/our fans in general and media. I want him to do well and more then anything I want that to be with us and if he earns his move then I'd like nothing better then to see a local lad do very well. But I just see some points that could harm all that if he doesn't act to change them.
