Just as the home record came to an end the other day, I think the same might happen here to our impressive away form, with thoughts, naturally, turning to the summer and the beach
This was a struggle. They haven't played in Millwall since 1910. Millwall was named after some windmills on a 'wall' which was a mud embankment to keep the river off the swamp. The other notable landmark seems to be a Black wall. It's now yuppieville. Formed by tinsmiths at J.T. Morton’s Canning and Preserve Factory and prophetically called Millwall Rovers, with a HQ in The Islander pub. They then became Millwall Athletic, but dropped the suffix, presumably for trade description reasons. The blue and white kit and Lion motif is a nod the the jockanese roots of Mr Morton. Erm..the SS Great Britain was built and launched there. I guess that's why the emigrated to Bermondsey, whose name means "dry bit in a swamp" and is the setting for Fagin and Bill Sykes in Oliver Twist. They have more swamp beds than all of the hotels in Portugal. Wee Willie Harris, known as "Britain's wild man of rock 'n' roll", came from Bermondsey and had worked as a pudding mixer at Peek Freans. He is usually credited as the first British rock and roll player. The schoolkids in Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall' are from a Bermondsey School. 82% of the residents live in flats or maisonettes and over 30% of the kids are obese. Given this, it's no surprise to read The Sunday Times named Bermondsey 'the best place to live in London in 2018'.
No mention of Wee Willie Harris can pass without referencing the late, great spasticus autisticus himself. Reasons to be cheerful? Willie Harris is still alive. Unbelievably.
You should struggle on a regular basis as this is one of your better ones. Still, starting from such a low base...
Another tough one, if we make wholesale changes, then it will be even tougher. But one never knows, I guess any fringe players not involved, we can safely say they are for the exit door.
Sorry to pull you up on one of your facts DMD but the SS Great Britain was built and launched in Bristol! In fact she's back in the same place she was built and launched from in 1843. Perhaps you could replace it with the fact that there more Pie and Mash shops in Bermondsey than the whole of Portugal
Went to the old gaff down Old Kent Rd in about 74. Right at end of season. Lost 2-1 Peabo scored, Millwall missed out on promotion by a hairs breath. Remember walking to ground down old cinder track. Not that scary. Went to the new place for the 0-4. Horrible meccarno made dump.
Gonna win this one. No pressure. Playing to impress for contracts and a striker with things to prove after getting his first for the club. It’s a 2 nil Tigers .
Millwall still chasing the playoffs, could be a feisty affair. I could see us doing a Bournemouth on them but I don't know if we'll be up for that much of a scrap. I think we'll go down 1-0, possibly a penalty.
