Worth noting that a player on a season long loan while in his last year is the equivalent as signing a one year contract with the new club.

So this is where I'm confused. Is it 5 million for a season long loan? if not where is the incentive for man city to send him on loan when they can get 5m for the sale? It doesn't make sense why they would accept a loan. It doesn't make sense for us to ask for a loan either when we can tie him up on a longer contract.

There's no incentive for either club to go with a loan. Surely it's bullshit.

I back Ellis all the way when other have called him cheap but if we were to sign the lad on loan, after baulking at that sort of fee, and then miss out on him I'd suggest he needs his head checking and that he's in the wrong industry.

Correct.

On a free next summer he'd have his pick of clubs, he's above our level fit & on form so why gamble?

The only way we get to a level that signing players like he, AJ, Rodwell seems normal, is by signing more of them!

Thats where my thinking about the hone trained quota comes in, if we purchased him for £5m but was seen as a loan then he would still be classed as hone grown on city's books until the end of the season giving them time to replace

So how much is the loan for? I can only see this working if he signs a pre-contract agreement now. Can he do that? Or can he only do that with 6 months to run?

This mate. A loan makes no sense whatsoever. As nads said above, if he's going on a free he won't need to take a pay cut and could go somewhere above our station. He's the sort who would boss it on the continent as well.

To quote the King... It's now or never.

Yeah, I think Vergini needs developed as a CB, but that's the plan.

Roberge, fair play he's came from nowhere and is back in the mix, but a quick, athletic lad like Micah would be ideal for us.

I think Poyet does view Vergini as a CB who can cover RB, he's not in the mould of the type of full backs he prefers, which explains our interest in Byram.

Richards is class player and we won't get many opportunities to sign a defender of his ilk, so it would be hard to turn down the chance to sign him

What level are we? Manone, Brown, O'Shea, Rodwell, AJ, Giacherrini would sail into 3/4 of the premier league.

Mannone, Giacc and Rodwell might. Brown & O'Shea? No chance.

We are very much mid-table and a respectable club.

Next level to push for is top 8, Evrton level, and that's a big jump.

Players like Micah & Rodders, AJ & Giacc are that level, we are 3 or 4 of that calibre short of Everton.

Everton, as the benchmark, and of that level, just off the top of my head.

Howard
Coleman
Jagielka
Baines
Miralles
Lukaku
McCarthy

At least 3 or 4 ahead IMO.

Still think at least Brown (when fit) and Manone are up there.

Agreed and the Everton players quoted are at the top of that level as well, a few of ours don't match up in my eyes, all be it at a fairly similar standard

I think Baines has recently been found at as a bit of a home boy and probably a good premier league player but not a great one. He'll finish his career there now I reckon.

I can't believe they spent what they did on Lukaku. Not sure it's a great deal.

He's going to become a top top player, it's great to see them showing ambition like that
