`Definition of Racist Incident. The Macpherson Report defined a racist incident as “any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person”.`

A classic example of this was previously described to me on a course i attended many years ago, and surrounds two males, one was black the second white. They worked in the same office together and were close not only in the office but also socially, their families socialised together and even went on holiday together.

One day the black male asked the white male if they wanted a drink as he was making one for himself, the white male accepted the offer, adding `you`re a good egg`, at this time a third person was walking past the open office door and hear the `good egg` remark, they were a white male, and immediately went to the manager to report a racist incident. It transpires that the third person perceived the comment regarding `good egg` to be racist towards the black male, claiming this was a form of cockney rhyming slang, i.e. egg and spoon - ...., an investigation was sanctioned against the white male who made the comment, who was subsequently given a written warning, and only kept his job after the black male made a statement defending him, and stating that he perceived it as an innocent remark which was said without thought of racism.

For me it said more about the person that reported it then the two friends, but it shows how it can be manipulated.

You know you're right when Bengals takes umbrage with your views and supports the other side.

Says far more about their disciplinary procedure and the abject stupidity of their management. <doh>

Apart from the expected personal dig at me, which is wrong, this is quite correct.

There was no hesitation, there was in fact an attempt to justify the comment, which as you rightly point out, was daft.

A quick apology, along the lines of "sorry, I wasn't meaning it like that" would have killed this dead in its tracks. Instead we got "I meant what I said and I stand by it, here's some examples of African footballers with bad tempers...".

So crediting him with hesitation is missing the target by some way.

Bearing in mind this is the guy responsible for social media from the Trust. This is the guy currently running a campaign to take someone elses quotes, twisting them, then ridiculing them. It's hypocrisy at worst, and ironic at best.

It's depressing how when something like this gets called out, the reaction of a minority is to try and claim they're the victims, they are right and just stating the obvious, someone is "playing the race card" like it's not valid. Accusations of being a lefty liberal (which is genuinely funny) plus the rest. It validates why campaigns such as the Kick It Out one are sadly needed.

Indeed .. unfortunately companies are terrified about being branded and tend to investigate any such suggestion .. common sense very rarely comes into it .. welcome to the world of political correctness .. good for so many things but shambolic on occasions

Whatever; your longwinded post certainly justifies your earlier longwinded posts, even though it is mainly bollocks. I'll keep mine brief. <laugh>

If they had investigated and if the investigators were blessed with even a modicum of intelligence they would have called false alarm, retakre your seats, bsorry for the inconvenience. Nothing to do with PC or big company syndrome.

Celtic and Rangers have by far the best fans in the U.K, they are the only ones that get close to replicating the atmosphere seen in continental Europe.

I'd have them in the English leagues in an instant.

A small majority might be, but there's racists, homphobes and bigots in the crowds at English games too.

Leaving politics out of it, they would both be an asset to the English leagues.

You give your opinion as though it's fact, I don't agree ... have you ever been to an Old Firm match? If you have, you'll have heard more bigotry and bile in one match than I've heard in c. 50 years following City. I personally like a bit of hostility, even now, but ..... sectarian abuse is something else.

Yes I've have actually, the season before Rangers went bust.

Nothing I saw or heard was any more offensive than the Nazi salutes I've seen made towards spurs fans or the monkey gestures aimed at black players we still see in the premier league even now.

It takes a lot to offend me so maybe I'm not the best person to ask but with regards to passion and vocal support there isn't a team in England that comes close to either of them.
