`Definition of Racist Incident. The Macpherson Report defined a racist incident as “any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person”.`
A classic example of this was previously described to me on a course i attended many years ago, and surrounds two males, one was black the second white. They worked in the same office together and were close not only in the office but also socially, their families socialised together and even went on holiday together.
One day the black male asked the white male if they wanted a drink as he was making one for himself, the white male accepted the offer, adding `you`re a good egg`, at this time a third person was walking past the open office door and hear the `good egg` remark, they were a white male, and immediately went to the manager to report a racist incident. It transpires that the third person perceived the comment regarding `good egg` to be racist towards the black male, claiming this was a form of cockney rhyming slang, i.e. egg and spoon - ...., an investigation was sanctioned against the white male who made the comment, who was subsequently given a written warning, and only kept his job after the black male made a statement defending him, and stating that he perceived it as an innocent remark which was said without thought of racism.
For me it said more about the person that reported it then the two friends, but it shows how it can be manipulated.
