"Panathinaikos winger Charis Mavrias will complete his move to Sunderland within 24 hours, after it appeared the deal had collapsed.
Mavrias was the subject of a €3 million bid by the English Premier League club earlier in the month, with Panathinaikos manager Yiannis Anastasiou keen to reinvest the income from the deal into rebuilding his squad.
The Greek club are in a difficult financial situation and have not stood in the way of the 19 year-old Greece international moving to England.
Though the deal seemed to have died, Sunderland have rekindled their interest in Mavrias, who has been told by his future employers to travel to Wearside tomorrow for a medical.
The Journal reports that the delay in his move to the Premier League was caused by a “change of medical staff” at Sunderland, which “held up the processing of Mavrias’ records”.
Over the past three years at Panathinaikos, Mavrias has established himself as a first-team regular and one of the rising stars of Greek football, part of an exciting crop of players who have impressed under Greece U-19 and U-21 manager Kostas Tsanas."
