We need depth, and he would be quality depth. He doesn't improve the first team though and I'm not sure how happy he would be being backup. He'd be expensive as backup but injuries happen all the time.

Kieta next summer... lemar... well we know salah and mane have zero cover today so that gives chamberlain two positions minimum to fit into.
In a central role both are better than Ox IMO, he'd be good cover for Mane and Salah and if we get Lemar is he really needed?
IMO and assuming mr coutinho is off and can will prob be too then:
a) 4 for 2 positions wide is ideal mane, salah, lemar, ox. .. though i would seriously think 3 of the 4 are going to play all the time
b) midfield. Henderson and keita will be 2 of the 3 leaving the others to fight for a role. Lallana is 30... his game is all about work, and a cruyff turn to nowhere... can he keep that up. Windy vanishes away from hom and i feel he doesn't relase a pass fast enough... so ox imo is not better for sure but unsure if worse
So Needed? maybe no right away but needed within 12 month and maybe if he forces his way in it pushes the others on too.
Last year we'd no CMs left in effect and not much cover wide at all and crawled home.
30mil is a massive fee for his contract state though
Central midfield? We don't need him. He doesn't offer anything new and £30m ridiculous. Pick him up on a free at best but £30m+ and his astronomical wages would make the deal pathetic.

he's got injury problems no question.
with 12 months left 35mil is a bit mad to me too.
I think he's be at worst in a fight for either the treatment room or the bench.

In midfield Lallana is well ahead of Wijnaldum who is well ahead of Ox
But Ox could cover a number of positions
Can't see TAA being first choice this season due to the defensive deficiencies in his game at present. If no MF's are signed think we may see TAA used to cover RM on occasions .
Yeah I can see that but TAA and Gomez are decent cover Clyne may come back and up his game with the competition in place.
That is why i'm not panicking as much as last year about the lack of depth in the squad as the FB positions now have alternatives therefore releasing Milner & TAA on occasions for MF duties to help with rotation
