Club have ballsed this up big time. The public deadline was really stupid. The lad still has time to sign today, if he doesn't it's cause of what he wants and not his agent. He's not duty bound to take his advice. If he doesn't sign today, we need to back up our big mouth, sell him, move on and never take contract situations out of house and into the public domain ever again.

This pisstake was meant to have stopped, not backing up our words on the deadline makes us look weak.

I've nowt against Maja, it's his career. But pandering to him post deadline will be deeply embarrassing and ****s on an ethos we've worked hard to put in place for our own self preservation imo.

Huge lessons to be learnt from this fiasco.

Frustrating isn't it, don't understand how players can take no responsibility for their future and just do what their agents tell them like a mindless chump. If you want to stay then take your x7 pay rise and sign the contract you tit.
They can though, he can sign today, if he doesn't it's because of Maja's wishes, not his agent's

Couldn’t agree more Bri, I said couple days back that a deadline was a silly move, he may well, as I can understand, want to stay but want to be confident we are Championship next year.

We’ve backed him into a corner publicly and now we are in a position of weakness as you say.

So easy for him to say it's not my fault it's my agents, grow some balls and tell the truth, if you want to be away we won't stop you. just pay your dues

I guess if you look at it a different way then his Agent has played Donald at his own game by going public.

Yeah there was no need at all for the club (seems like just Donald really) to go public, could have given the ultimatum privately. Learning experience for him.

As has been said, this deadline should have been strictly internal. I suspect there’s been some handbags with the agent prior to this.

Agents are scumbags and that will never change. They’ll just get greedier and more devious.

Shame Maja is the one caught in the middle. You never know, he might man up, say what he really wants and sign..... ****ing his agent off in the process. Agents are ten a penny. Good clubs that will help you develop aren’t

If Donald's comment in the OP is true about Maja wanting to sign but then being told not to by his agent, then if he doesn't sign he's not captain of his own ship imo.
Or he just doesn't want to sign. An agent can't overrule a player, they work for the player not the other way round. Maybe if we hadn't rushed the lad with a public deadline so close to the start of the window things may have been different. But the situation is what is and it doesn't wash that he wants to sign in the present situation or he would.

His reasons for not maybe justified the way we've handled it, but I don't buy the cock and bull story about him wanting to sign but this agent 'forcing' him not to. Doesn't make sense.

Nor does it make sense Stewart Donald saying that he would have kept it in-house but the agent talking to sky forced his hand. The public deadline a week ago took it out of house and I think it's made the situation impossible for the lad.

It's a desaster. Doesn't mean I turn on Stewie, but he most know he's monumentality ****ed up in the most public way possible. Even if 90% of twitter are showing him blind faith. Unfortunately for Maja he's getting a lot of **** and I think it's misdirected.

Stew has ****ed uo, and he’s contradicted himself badly ‘we’d have kept in house’.

You didn’t though mate you told the Echo last week for ****s sake.

It doesn’t take away from my delight overall with the new owners, but this isn’t the first show of naivety, they need to learn quickly.

This is not Eastleigh.

Couldn't agree more. I don't think the public deadline will have been appreciated by Maja or his agent.

Right at the start of the window too. Baffling, with a week left of the window I'd get an in-house deadline entirely.

I’ve a feeling he will end up staying mind, mainly due to reading what JR has to say about the lad.

I do fully believe he wants to be here.
