He's Brazilian. Think of him like Ronaldinho, plays in midfield or winger but scores loads and and ends up becoming the best player in the world. You can draw a great deal of comfort from this.

Zen status. Ying yang, ping pong, chimmy chonga.

what we seem to be building is a core of ETH players that would transform the culture and feel of the first team. The likes of Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Fred , Elanga, Ronaldo will be squad players coming in to relieve the first 11 and give them a rest or cover for injuries or suspensions.

Still maintain we need a No.9 like Ivan Toney (assuming Ronaldo leaves, which of course he might not) but it does seem Antony wants to come, so we should now do the deal.

Forget the other one, not sure I've seen we've even actually been fully interested myself?

Rashford and Martial the alternatives for through the middle.

Good point. What I think after what he did with Maguire, Ronaldo, Shaw and now with De Gea/Dubravka is he wants our existing players to know their position isn't safe, they're not going to start regardless, and they have to fight for their place or lose it.

It's been a long time coming!

    Fabrizio Romano:
Manchester United official proposal to Newcastle for Martin Dubravka is for loan move until June 2023. Just been told it also includes buy option clause discussed between the two clubs, around £5m.

Defo move towards a sweeper keeper here?

Isn’t it a bit demeaning and belittling for Ronaldo to be paraded by his agents in front of every CL club and beg to be bought/acquired so that he can play in the CL? Not known any thing like it and so belittling of a great player.

His agents are now trying to convince Napoli.

for the last 10 years we have been the crappiest club at negotiating deals. Arnold came here deciding that the club being taken advantage of had to stop and we now have got a new era of solid negotiations. Lo and behold Arnold is 100 times WORSE than Woodward. Shows how bad he is at this. Ten Hag had said that Antony was his priority buy in ****ing May. We are now 5 days before the closure of the window and we’ve had the latest bid rejected. Complete incompetence doesn’t begin to describe the ****ing negotiating team of Utd.

FFS , there is a PL premium for international players, on top of which there is a Manchester United premium and on top of that there is a 'why didn't you ****ers sort this out earlier in the window premium - you can't blame Ajax, they know we want the player, so its natural that they will hold out for as much dosh as possible

I don’t blame Ajax at all. The whole world and his wife knew that Utd was in a desperate state and had to recruit new players. Every bid smacks of desperation and the sellers can smell it. When you want a player that the club doesn’t need or want to sell and on a longish contract, we all know that that they’ll stick to their asking price. Ajax have already said in public and to the player that they’d prefer to keep him for at least this season. Utd should know that either they pay the asking price or they move on. Even the most naive novice could see that. Ironically Utd paid the asking price for Casemiro without much negotiating. TenHag didn’t seem to have been keen on him. Is it because the DOF Murtough and Fletcher are keen on him?

There are two stories here. One story where Ajax are saying they're unhappy that the deal is being done leaving them only 5 days of the transfer window. The second story is where Antony told Ajax back in February that he wants to leave for pastures new and the club told him they had no intention to sell.

When you look at both stories, either way, it doesn't paint our approach in targeting and trying to buy him in a good light. It's been poorly handled tbh.

Edit: And the fact we seem to think we can solve every problem by trying to chuck money at it makes it all even worse. £90m ffs.

This is a blink first game, they know we want him and we know he wants out.
Do we set a value and stick to it within a small margin or do we just cave when Ajax decide they want £150m because they have left it too late to sell him?
If we walk away and go for Gakpo they are left with a very unhappy player but we end up with possibly 2nd choice.
They have been rumoured to want £80m and we have offered £75m for the difference and getting first choice we should at this stage just pay the price, if they move beyond that price to take the piss then just walk away.

The point being made by many is that TenHag has made it clear to Utd’s hierarchy back in May that Antony was a player he really wanted. Ajax said at the time that he was a player that they didn’t want to sell and that they would only sell for £80m. It was clear then that Ajax had nothing to lose by sticking to 80m. Because Utd walking away was exactly what they wanted. So why not pay the asking price then? We now have spent 3 months+ “negotiating “, euphemism for Ajax standing their ground. How ****ing incompetent are these people? The whole world could see that Ajax were not going to budge so WHY ****ing waste everyone’s time? You either want the player and pay the asking price. If you think he’s overvalued and don’t want to pay then walk away.

We've gone from £80 to £90m. Even if you ignore the fact he's not worth anywhere near that, when you consider everything else, it's just a ridiculous position we've put ourselves in.

Look at the two stories. He told Ajax back in February his intention to leave IF a club came in for him. They said no. So I can understand if you go in early and put a big offer in early to test them. If they say no, you may choose to persist if ETH wants him, but to leave it this late to put in that big offer is not only poor, but disrespectful towards the selling club, namely Ajax here. All it's done is get their back up, cement their position and come up with a ridiculous price tag. And tbph I don't blame them.
