Get what your'e saying but we have been ripped off too many times and for far too long. We've gone from £80 to £90m. Even if you ignore the fact he's not worth anywhere near that, when you consider everything else, it's just a ridiculous position we've put ourselves in.
Look at the two stories. He told Ajax back in February his intention to leave IF a club came in for him. They said no. So I can understand if you go in early and put a big offer in early to test them. If they say no, you may choose to persist if ETH wants him, but to leave it this late to put in that big offer is not only poor, but disrespectful towards the selling club, namely Ajax here. All it's done is get their back up, cement their position and come up with a ridiculous price tag. And tbph I don't blame them.
We should set a maximum value to us and stick to it then if the parent club goes beyond that limit walk away. I genuinely think we had/have a ceiling of £80m (Ajax asking price) but had no intention of going with that straight off given the players wish to leave.
Now we are 5 days from the window "slamming shut tm" and Ajax are crying no time to replace him, not our fault they stuck to one figure and they still don't have to sell him but i think they will.
