Our Plan B to Lombaerts apparatly according to a few of todays articles
....
Sunderland made an approach for Younès Kaboul last night after pulling out of a deal to sign Nicolas Lombaerts, also a defender, from Zenit St Petersburg. Kaboul was named Tottenham Hotspur captain a year ago but fell out of favour with the north London club. He is in the final year of his contract and is likely to cost about £3 million. Lombaerts claimed that he rejected the offer of a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light to stay at Zenit and denied that he had failed a medical. Some reports suggested that the Belgium player has a knee problem.

I sincerely hope this is not true. I rate him as a player but his injury record is as bad as Browns.
Also can anybody remember this 8 years ago when we were last in for him:-

Sunderland target Younes Kaboul emphatically denied that he is heading to Wearside, insisting he wouldn't go there even if there was an earthquake.
In extraordinary comments issued by his agent, Rudy Raba, the Frenchman said he would not sign for Roy Keane's side as to do so would damage his hopes of international call ups.
Keane this week had a combined offer of around £15 million for four players accepted by Tottenham, though convincing the players themselves to join the club may not be as straightforward as he would have expected.
Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio and Kaboul are all deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and manager Juande Ramos is eager to raise quick funds from their sale.
However, Raba said: "Younes would not join Sunderland - even if there was an earthquake.
"We've much more interesting options. No disrespect, but playing at Sunderland would not help his international career."
Chimbonda is currently on Wearside to open talks over a possible move. The 29-year-old France international is understood to have arrived in the north-east with his representatives after Sunderland were given permission to talk to the player.
Keane, whose squad flew out to Portugal for a pre-season training camp yesterday, revealed earlier this week that he is yet to sit down with a player this summer to persuade him to join the club.
Sunderland are hoping for similar responses from Tainio and Malbranque, although Kaboul's agent's comments mean that avenue has now been closed with the Morocco-born player interesting Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.

He later joined Pompey and said they were a better club. How wrong was he!!
