Our Plan B to Lombaerts apparatly according to a few of todays articles .... Sunderland made an approach for Younès Kaboul last night after pulling out of a deal to sign Nicolas Lombaerts, also a defender, from Zenit St Petersburg. Kaboul was named Tottenham Hotspur captain a year ago but fell out of favour with the north London club. He is in the final year of his contract and is likely to cost about £3 million. Lombaerts claimed that he rejected the offer of a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light to stay at Zenit and denied that he had failed a medical. Some reports suggested that the Belgium player has a knee problem. ............................................................ I sincerely hope this is not true. I rate him as a player but his injury record is as bad as Browns. Also can anybody remember this 8 years ago when we were last in for him:- .............................................................. Sunderland target Younes Kaboul emphatically denied that he is heading to Wearside, insisting he wouldn't go there even if there was an earthquake. In extraordinary comments issued by his agent, Rudy Raba, the Frenchman said he would not sign for Roy Keane's side as to do so would damage his hopes of international call ups. Keane this week had a combined offer of around £15 million for four players accepted by Tottenham, though convincing the players themselves to join the club may not be as straightforward as he would have expected. Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio and Kaboul are all deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and manager Juande Ramos is eager to raise quick funds from their sale. However, Raba said: "Younes would not join Sunderland - even if there was an earthquake. "We've much more interesting options. No disrespect, but playing at Sunderland would not help his international career." Chimbonda is currently on Wearside to open talks over a possible move. The 29-year-old France international is understood to have arrived in the north-east with his representatives after Sunderland were given permission to talk to the player. Keane, whose squad flew out to Portugal for a pre-season training camp yesterday, revealed earlier this week that he is yet to sit down with a player this summer to persuade him to join the club. Sunderland are hoping for similar responses from Tainio and Malbranque, although Kaboul's agent's comments mean that avenue has now been closed with the Morocco-born player interesting Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp. ........................................................ He later joined Pompey and said they were a better club. How wrong was he!!
I hope we go in another direction kaboul is not the answer. I would much rather we go for Vlaar Evans Van Dijk Caulker Any of them 4 would be a much better option
Sunderland have been linked with a move Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul after the collapse of the Nicolas Lombaerts deal. The Black Cats were dealt a blow this week when Belgian international Lombaerts’ proposed move from Zenit St Petersburg collapsed after the 30-year-old failed a medical. However, Dick Advocaat remains eager to boost his central defensive options before the start of the season and there is speculation today that Kaboul is a player on Sunderland’s radar as an alternative to Lombaerts. Kaboul only has a year remaining on his contract at Spurs and is available for transfer after a miserable injury-hit campaign where he failed to appear in the Premier League after November. Despite dropping down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, there have been suggestions that Spurs are looking for £5million for the 29-year-old, although it is likely they would accept a bid of around £3m. But it would not be the first time that Sunderland have chased Kaboul. The Frenchman was a target for Roy Keane back in 2008 and Sunderland had a bid accepted by Spurs.
We were a different side back then (newly promoted), so I can see where Kaboul was coming from at the time - albeit, his agent's comments were utterly tactless. As for today, I'd have him if he was quality and could show up every week to the game. I have serious doubts on whether he could satisfy both of these so he couldn't be the rock of a CB we need. But I would cheerfully take him as our second CB purchase this window (3m seems about right for this role). If he were fit and out muscled Coates and O'Shea for a first team spot, then so be it.
IIRC his agent said he wouldn't come to us even if there was an earthquake or something. **** him, he's ****e n'all.
I think it's safe to say that we can do better than Kaboul. It's slightly worrying that on a global scale, taking into account every affordable CB playing in a decent league, we want Kaboul.
Vlaar was in my Fantasy football squad for a canny bit of last season. I remember him being injured a lot of the time One that I would add to that list is Dawson from Hull. I was disappointed that we didn't go for him this time last year
I'll bid for johnny Evans me like, hopefully his mackem lass will have a word with him. Plus Kabul can **** right off.
Kaboul is having a Medical at Sunderland as we speak, he is an Experienced Premier League defender, I don't think Dick would have him if he wasn't any good, lets give him a chance.
ON Sky Website at 12.46 ; BREAKING NEWS: KABOUL IN BLACK CATS MEDICAL Spurs defender Younes Kaboul is having a medical at Sunderland ahead of completing a £3m move to the Stadium of Light, according to Sky sources.
It's safe to say that, unless you sign the best player in every position, you can do better. He'll improve the squad, has a great passing average iirc & PL experience for one of the top sides. The club is doing well this window.
Kaboul is a good, powerful defender. He is better on the ball than we have, a better passer than what we have and chips in the odd goal. He's like Usain Bolt compared to what we have pace wise as well, not saying much I know. For £3million this is a savvy bit of business for a lad with a heap of Premier League experience.
I think in this situation it is a case of 1 out (Vergini to Getafe) and 1 in so compare Kaboul to Virgini - I'm happy
