I think that's a misleading simplification of his role. He's played on the right or as a false 9 for us. Either way, he's part of the front four who score almost all of our goals. He's had some good chances lately and missed them all, and it's finishing those chances that's been a big problem for us all season, so we do need players who score them fairly reliably. Hitting the post or missing closely isn't of any use to us. He does look like he's close to scoring goals, but whether he makes that step to actually doing so is the key question.

Again, I'm not saying he isn't good. He's clearly one of the most skillful players we've got, I love watching him and think he's been a great signing, I'm just suggesting we keep our excitement in check like we often fail to do with new players leading to disappointment further down the line. People declaring him better than Philogene at this early stage might later feel as silly as the people who in their initial excitement about Allahyar said that he was better than KLP.

I'm not sure "don't talk up our new high-quality players in case they later turn out to be ****" is a particularly practical way to support the club.

And no, I know you didn't say those words PLT - but you are implying it to some extent.

Talk them up if you like. It's better than the opposite. Just think some of it might be a bit over the top at this early stage, but it does no harm, and I'm only still talking about it because people keep questioning it.

It’s wrong to judge him off output as he’s currently doing a job for us as a false 9.

Carvalho is playing his natural role really, Tufan has always scored goals in his career.

Omur isn’t just showing glimpses he’s showing everything you need to stand out at this level.

Allahyar did too until he tore his hamstring in 2 at the start of last season. He was really good first few games of the season.

Agree to disagree then, I see Omur as our permanent solution to Carvalho in the summer. Carvalho can play central or out wide and so can Omur. Currently Omur is predominantly playing out wide but will play more central when Carvalho returns to Liverpool.

As an aside, I don't see end product as exclusively goals, but assists too. It was a big criticism I had of Lokilo for lacking any end product. I'm not critical of Omur, but I don't think expecting end product from him is farcical.

No absolutely not it’s more so the comparisons being thrown around. He’s not being used to add end product right now for me. The fact he probably should is down to how good he is. The right sided player in our side is primarily for keeping control of the game. (One thing Lokilo was okay at)

Like we saw with the second goal, he drifted inside picked up the ball and played the decisive pass that allowed Tufan to have the easiest assist of his life

Nevertheless, the weight of Tufan's pass was spot on, that is not always the easiest thing to do in a tight situation.

Omur like Grealish is a guy who will take pressure off by keeping the ball in very tight areas , it’s a quality and necessity . His only flaw so far is lifting shots , maybe on the deck shots will do it . I’ve not seen another player in the Championship with his ability and control and work rate . It’s not over the top it’s recognition of a very good player at this level .

Exactly what I was thinking in terms of a compere, Bernardo silva is spot on…
 
Interestingly I was conversing with a Liverpool fan about Fabio, and they see him as winger/ midfielder and not a number 10 as he isn’t creative enough. I feel his only position he is effective as is a false 9/ number 10.

I don’t think he’s good enough for a side like Liverpool at the moment, bottom half of the Prem at most.

I’m a little surprised Liverpool sent him on loan to the championship to be honest. Surely it would have been more beneficial for them to send him to a team in the Prem?

Probably the fact he hadn't played at Leipzig and we were a ready-made nest with players he already played with in Seri and Morton.

And the fact he was obviously coming in as the best No 10 we have. No guarantee of minutes required beyond that. He was always going to play. Barring anything unforseen.

I think a lot of the argument is what kind of product you expect from which position.

Omur on sat was unlucky not to score twice.

If he continues in that vein he's going to score and assist plenty. But his influence is also something that can't be defined by pure goals and assists. Interceptions, key passes are all end product at the end of the day from the position he's playing.

It's not a surprise, that the longer the likes of he and Fabio have played in our system, the more influential they've become.

And that goes back to time, understandings, relationships, confidence etc.

But you don't just chuck a bunch of footballers on a pitch and expect 1970's Brazil in the first dozen games.

Just like I wouldn't expect Omur to play in the 10 and rattle in a goal every second game like Fabio has. They're different players.

Hopefully the best is still to come though. Especially in front of the home fans this season.
