I wish people would leave Branfoot alone all he did wrong was badly manage the club leave out your best player sign Dixon and Speedy and Hurlock bring in Peter Ried as a player after he got the sack managing Man City whats wrong with that?
OMG I'd forgotten about the little s**t Speedy. One of two players that I really did not want to see in a Saints shirt (the other being Sparkie).

Hurlock was a beast Didn’t he have an on the pitch punch up with one of his teammates?

Forgot all about Peter Reid, was that towards the end of his tenure?

I started watching saints as Nichols left and branfoot came in. If it hadn’t been for Matty I probably would have lost interest as a 6 year old.

Latest from Ralph Hasenhüttl in today's pre-match press conference...

On whether Fraser is in his plans this week…
No, not really. I made the choice to have two strong keepers with Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy. I think they did it well, both of them. So it will always be like it is, if you have a good experience with one goalkeeper then you don’t look for another one. It can be that Fraser can take a game in the under-23s. It’s possible to do so in the future because he needs games to get back in the position where he is an option for other clubs maybe and that’s what we try to force in the future.

On whether Fraser might therefore leave the club as he trims the squad…
Yes, that’s right.

On Gabbiadini going to Sampdoria today and why it didn’t work out here…
It’s difficult to say. If you are a new manager and you come to a new club, you get the first experience and first impressions about a player and for me it seems that he is a good player with fantastic technique, but with this intensive pressing system we try to play, I think to be honest it’s not his way of playing. So it’s better to find a solution that is better for both sides. We can’t show him what he wants to see from us and he can’t bring us what we want to see from him. So it’s better to find a different solution and I think it’s a good step for him to go back to Italy and I wish him all the best. I know that he is a fantastic player and I am sure that he can score in every club in the world, his goals, but we try to go a different way and I think for that we need different players.

On if signing a striker is his priority now…
That’s right. That’s what we are forcing and what we are looking for. To bring someone in, in this transfer period is not so easy. Because we must find a guy who is also not for the short-term to make us better, but also for the long-term. I only want to take a transfer which is also with a future, that it is helping us for the longer term and that’s what I want to see.

On whether upcoming games mean we need to move faster in the market…
Sure, it’s better to make it as soon as possible. But it’s not so easy in the winter transfer period. We have very important games now, that we are facing and we have a good squad. We have a little bit of a problem with injuries in the front, that’s right. But we don’t want to be hurried. We’ll take time, think about it and if we are 100 per cent sure that this guy makes us better, we will take it. Not earlier.

Mainly agree. Puel got us to a top half finish and a cup final and is doing similarly well with Leicester. His downfall was the quality of football. MP2 is probably a decent coach but never really had the chance to build his own squad and seemed to just reinforce Puels possession style football. As for Hughes, he is definitely a good manager but just seems to have lost that 'spark(ie)' that motivated players (and fans).

As for MP1 and RK, I think the club did the best they could. MP1 showed loyalty by staying a year after Cortese left but gave good notice of his intentions so we could plan for his replacement. With RK I think he considered himself bigger than the club and would have been quite happy to stay another year if everyone ceded power to him. That was never going to happen. He must look back though and realise he screwed up because his career and reputation went rapidly downhill from there. That Christmas tree fiasco at Everton was soooo funny.

Back to transfers, the Lookman rumours seem to be gathering weight. Reasonably excited by that but is not the out and out striker or CB that the fans are looking for.
Nice and from my point of view very fair summary. I don’t get this anti- Hughes line promoted by some. I think he did the best job he thought he could, any one watching the MU game could see that being freed from LR’s influences he was prepared to try new approaches. I feel his main weakness was his apparent blanking out of decent players such as Bednarek yet retaining Hoedt. That seemed a problem for me anyway. All water under the bridge however and we now see how and if Ralph can get a better hand with an enriched group of players who add something to the squad in quality and desire.
