Transfer Rumours January '23 Transfer Thread

Now we know what the squad will look like, it’s about perfecting the style. If this squad carries us up the league to a good position, it’ll mean a huge overhaul isn’t needed, just a few upgrades in quality.

We aren’t going to do a Forest, their turnaround started in October if I remember rightly, not February. We shouldn’t be comparing stuff like that anyway, we’re a different team and we are building towards something as a project.

'building towards something as a project' sounds a bit corporate speak to me. Did you discuss that at you latest blue sky thinking session, or will you do so going forward? You'll be expecting LR to take it offline and reach out to help him take the club to the new normal next...

I know a bloke who runs an IT company, one of his strategies was to invest a little in a lot of new ideas on the basis that at least 1 in 10 would come good. Maybe Acun and Tan are following a similar path. With the departures this window the squad shape and size seems much better than it did at the start of then season.

Cautionary note, my IT bloke's company folded after a couple of years!

The Forest comparison has been taken out of context. It was about how much they had to reinvest over the summer and how ill prepared they looked for the big boy's league.

They weren't ill prepared. Like many teams in the champ without parachute payments they've had to rely on loans and some free transfers. My mate who's a forest fan pointed out to me they had 9 squad members after the playoff final on their books.

Their recruitment since however feels like our summer window but on steroids. Feels like the owners get their own players in, scouts do and Cooper does as well and somehow they have to make it gel.

Revisiting this, it now seems Ebiowei won't make this match (Rosenior has said he'll join training on Monday) so for this weekend's game we only have Oscar, Connelly and Longman available as attacking players. With Smith out on loan it's one less than we had last week.

Really does feel like no matter how many attackers we sign, we're doomed to have a shortage of them in every game. Whenever it seems we're about to be well-stocked, an injury recurs, someone gets a 3-game ban, or a transfer falls through at the last minute.

I can absolutely see why we wanted to sign one more and I think it's a real shame we weren't able to.

It sort of makes me wonder, what would happen if there were no transfer windows and you could just sign players any time. Would anyone ever actually move without the pressure of a looming deadline? Or would it just be a constant cycle of everyone waiting for someone else to twitch?

The old transfer window ran until March, there was still a mad run around to get players in, this was before the whole Sky show popped up.
It doesn’t matter if you had it for 2 months or 2 weeks, everything would be left to the last minute, one thing is money, next thing is the drama that they get mentioned on Sky, trying to get the deal sheet in by 11pm, despite player being there since 11am.

I really think you need to think outside the box on this one. Aspire to reach your goals and you will reach them quicker.

I don't mind us waiting as we need to properly assess the squad ahead of the summer.. Yes, we're a bit short this week, Tetteh's suspension hurts, but it sounds like Pelkas & Malcolm should be back next weekend. Allahyar seems closer than we thought too. So all of a sudden there will be a lot of high-quality attacking players available.

1 more when they're all back fit would feel a bit like overkill especially when there's Tufan and Traore too.

Happy to wait and see what happens, but we do need to make sure these players are robust enough to play substantial minutes

The thing is, we've been a week or so away from being awash with attacking options for over a month now and it keeps getting pushed back.

Ebiowei was meant to be on the bench for Cardiff. I'm starting to treat any medical updates from Liam with a healthy dose of skepticism. He also said Ally was taken off as a precaution before it turned out to be a two month injury.
