I agree with every word there apart from "defensive". I wouldn't call JWP a defensive midfielder TBH. He's more a box to box midfielder.
Yes I guess so, but the point is you wouldn’t classify him as an AM like Maddison, or, er, Dennis of Watford.

I know, I was hoping it would be fewer but I had to continue the research! Considering JWP is primarily a defensive midfielder, which none of the others are, it’s quite an amazing achievement though.

On top of that, he has made the most crosses of any PL player this season, with 276. Only TAA with 237 comes close, with Robertson third on just 177. Also top on successful crosses with 77.

it would be nothing short of insanity to let him go, no matter what the fee. Easily our most important player, the heart of the team, and a model professional.

What is classed as a 'successful cross'...?? It can't be one that leads to a goal if he has banged in 77 and our strikers have about 20 goals between them :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I guess it means it gets to a team member before an opposition player. As you say, that usually doesn’t mean much with our strikers but it’s a start!

I think people are absolutely insane if they think all he offers is his set pieces.
He’s our best player by far even without free kicks.
Absolute leader and still improving.
Should start for England with rice in the pivot.

Absolute leader? Really? What qualities do you think makes him such a strong leader?

I don't see him as that at all. For every one of our humpings in recent years he's gone missing just as much as anyone else.

Please note that I'm not saying he's a terrible one (as people keep saying I do about other things on this topic) but I certainly don't see him as a brilliant captain in the way the likes of Fonte & Deano were.

Yes, tend to agree with most of that. He’s certainly not a leader to take us to the next level. Has improved & might be that leader in the future but not one of his best attributes at the mo. Christ, that said, if he does develop that …… :emoticon-0165-muscl

Charlie Austin's latest rant isn't endearing him to Saints supporters, that's blown his chance of a Forever Saint award.
“He’s more appealing at a different club. I think he’d fit in at [HASHTAG]#AFC[/HASHTAG], [HASHTAG]#LCFC[/HASHTAG], [HASHTAG]#NUFC[/HASHTAG].” Charlie Austin says Ward-Prowse to leave [HASHTAG]#SaintsFC[/HASHTAG] to go to the World Cup.

He’s a wind up, and doesn’t like Saints and knows our likely triggers

According to Whoscored, he has four assists from crosses, which is a surprisingly good number for a player whose primary position does not generally involve a surplus of crosses.

That's more than the rest of the squad combined.

And apparently, if you take Salah's goals and assists away from Liverpool, they would be no where near a title challenge... funny that.

Always think articles like that are a bit stupid, is it a shock that if you suddenly strip your best players goals/assists and you wouldn't be doing as well?

Maybe it's a bit daft, but I don't think you can overstate how important he is to us. Worth a lot more than 70mill to Saints that's for sure.

Never mind 'absolute leader', here's an absolute bellend with his take -

Dont think he’s too wrong with his view about the England set up.

Maybe not about Leicester being a massive step up but apart from that not sure what he’s said that’s too outrageous.

Model professional. Came through the academy and knows the club inside out. Runs the most distance every single game. Doesn’t ever stop working and leads by example. Most goals & assists. Most crosses completed. Highest pass accuracy.

He is literally Mr. Southampton. I don’t understand how fans don’t see this? How is Fonte a good leader when he left us at the first sign of better pay? Clearly caused some dressing room issues too.

Sometimes I feel like I am watching a different team to others. I think he’s absolutely immense for us

That's a bit harsh. He was pretty much forced out of Saints. Not playing him in any of our European matches was totally unfair. On the pitch he was a proper leader. I agree with the rest of what you say about JWP. He's not the most vocal leader you get, but he certainly has a lot of leadership qualities. You don't have to be bellowing out instructions or be really intense to be a good leader.

You have to take in the fact that some Saints fans still hate JWP purely for Postcode racist reasons.
