Maybe Imaz, but at least the conversation about this is confined to the one thread. it would be harder to monitor and control if these conversations spread out - and they would, because we all have the subject on our minds right now.

That's my thought too. This won't stop being a talking point until the FA have dished out anything they see fit but it is easier to monitor if it's kept in isolation.

If we could all state our views with a bit of forethought and mutual respect (although I don't doubt that the respect part is abundant on here if sometimes ill-judged in terms of how it's represented).

Brix - I completely understand your views (and assume it's a little frustrating that this thread has also been hijacked to a large-degree). The club is, however, embroiled in something that goes to the very core of the game and, knowing this board and its posters, it would be difficult to ignore.

The players and owners of our beloved, little (for the time being) club do an immense amount of work in the community and collectively for good causes that span all walks of life. Many involved are professional footballers that we (rightly or wrongly) claim intellectual superiority over but, to their credit, they are possibly putting us to shame in terms of tolerance and acceptance.

I also think that we should take Brix's guidance at face value and without question while he remains the most moderate of moderators and up their with the very best of posters on this forum (although probably doesn't contribute as much as we'd like because he's continually battling our collective petulence).

I have said my part(s) and will gracefully retire from this thread. Sorry if it sounds preachy but I'll leave you all to it,

Matt

...now honky is being used we might offend the white people
as an observation would it be true to say that all gypos are honkys...

...Dale Farmers are pretty much all sponging benefit-cases with criminal intent and low morality. However, true Romany people are perfectly fine.

Sweeping generalisations not helping guys - even in jest.

In fact this is exactly the kind of thing we mods have to come away from our football chat to sweat over. May be fun for some but not for us.

It's true some people choose to take offence far too easily these days, but there are certain words and phrases that however used are liable to cause offence to people. It's not too much to ask of grown men to refrain from using these words surely. Surprised this thread has mutated into 5 pages. First post was enough for me.

Thought you were a bit silent on this issue Bob!

Having just read this entire thread in one go i must say i am extremely impressed and proud of the intelligence and thought that has gone in to it on BOTH sides of the arguement, this is want makes this forum the best on the internet.

The one thing you cannot legislate for is human nature. In any group, White, Black, Asian or any other there are good, bad and in between. The complexities of human nature are perfectly illustrated on this board and regardless of what we ourselves may see as acceptable, others don't.

I am very liberal in the view that people should be allowed to post whatever they wish, as DT says in a roundabout way, the tone of a post can emphasise whether there is malice in it's delivery. I often make use of emoticons which I feel convey whether a post which might seem insulting is actually in jest. To be honest, those of us who have been here a while will know the make-up of other posters who will accept such posts in the humour they are intended.

There have been other posters, The Zlatan being one, who clearly use certain insults with deliberate intent, that is when the moderators should step in with a warning and further if it continues...

In line with our light touch approach, we didn't intervene on the Zlat thing as OUR people, particularly DT, were clearly amusing themselves with a hapless outsider. The guy was a wum for sure, but more of a clay pigeon!

I totally agree that this thread has been excellent and I respect the people who have commented or ignored it. I may have gone about make a point in a half cocked way. The jokes recently made are fine IMO because it's human nature to comment if you have the means.
I sincerely felt enough was enough in June during the Euros as the forum was very bored and insults and opinions flew about any topic.

Shortly we will all be talking bollocks about actual football matches that concern us collectively. I also feel that we have grown as a unit that there shouldn't be anything we shouldn't discuss.

With the exception of a few disparaging remarks about older posters a few months ago, you've been fine mate!

As it happened we let that go on the strength that most of us are big and ugly enough to appreciate where you were coming from. If anyone had complained though, I wouldn't have hesitated to pull out the yellow card!!

I was always like that!

Anyway, I take the p**s out of my own age group as much as everyone else's!
I never meant to cause any real offence!
It can't be said there is no mickey taking of my age group, I just ignore it :P

Anyway, I don't mean to be Pedantic about a single issue; I think if no one "trolled" then the board would be a less interesting place, however, if someone intervenes with the intent of causing malice or actual insult, it does deserve to be banned.
