Ignorance and Moderation

I do admire your intention on this topic but I just feel that this kind of open progress isn't possible in such a short space of time.

My personal stance would be that the words should be eradicated but not forgotten (too many lessons about the wrongs of humanity to just ignore completely).

I'm completely with you on the subject of Gypsies and their being passed over in terms of what is deemed acceptable (also, people's ideas of what a Gypsy actually is gets muddied by poor knowledge as society seems to overlook the entire race). Furthermore, I think that the mass suffering and atrocities experienced by the Gypsies during WWII gets criminally overlooked at a blanket level.

Yes a lot of my family tree stopped during WW2 without a fair fight, I returned to this forum, not with a zany ego that needed to be feed but with a mission to contribute as subject had gone off football anyway. I have to believe that in debate we all help each other educate .. I certainly learn everyday and i am glued to people's opinions on here.

Does anyone have any issues with either this or the house rules set out on page 2? If not, do the decent thing, apply basic standards to your expressions and move on. As mods, our agreed default is light touch - but if you see something disrespectful about travellers or any other minority, challenge it openly or by PM and we'll have a look.

With the exception of a few disparaging remarks about older posters a few months ago, you've been fine mate!

As it happened we let that go on the strength that most of us are big and ugly enough to appreciate where you were coming from. If anyone had complained though, I wouldn't have hesitated to pull out the yellow card!!

Some very good articles written on this. Matt is on the money as per, but for me Beth's wee piece hit the nail on the head.

I'd just like to echo the sentiments expressed towards the Mods. We've got the best Mods across all the Boards as far as I can see. They do a top job and I, for one, am very grateful to them for that.

(I know some of us must be a right pain in the arse for them! )

You can be - but only in the sense that in winding certain people up, we risk calls to ban you. This imho would be a great loss to the spirit of our board. Fortunately no formal complaints received.

(As for other boards, mods do complain about you. We just advise them to decide what they want to do about it.)

There's an an obvious strong divergence of opinion on what may or may not constitute racist speech or even indeed racism. Be it age, political ideology or personal opinions we're going nowhere on this subject as is.

No. But then, the current 'traveller' population has, in my opinion, as much connection to the true Romany Gypsy as I do, and I've rarely entered a caravan by choise in all my years.

Dale Farmers are pretty much all sponging benefit-cases with criminal intent and low morality. However, true Romany people are perfectly fine.
