Guys, just wanted to point out that in my short dealings with Brix and Goldy as Mods i have realised how easy going and tolerant these guys are. They have no interest in getting involved unless they absolutely have to. If Brix is getting pissed off, then i can assure you there is a problem.

My comments carry with them hopefully a thought provoking message ... I am clearly of the opinion about the PC world gone mad.
I made a couple of comments on purpose as well as attach a database of racial words used worldwide.
The reason for my use of a couple of certain words was to highlight my opinion about the farce that involved our club to which certain people have been proven to have over reacted

I am not in any form a racist Nor do I think that anyone on here is accusing me of being one

I ribbed him ... I expect to be ribbed about mime . I certainly don't care about dead cricketers I don't care about and in future I agree I won't say anything as there are a lot of sensitive types that I should respect and I will.

I think that's a fair and very honest response from Oddball.

I'm of the opinion that there is an element of the public that actually WANT to be offended. I'm not saying that's the case with anyone on here but some people in society seem to go out of their way to get offended by something. I don't know if its some form of self-flagellation or something. Most likely they just like creating a fuss.

Obviously there is a line that shouldn't be crossed but far too often words are isolated and not taken in the context with which they were said and it creates a whole hullabaloo out of nothing. This annoys me. It has always annoyed me, especially when there's real nasty stuff going on that people don't or won't pay attention to.

I'm aware that we all have different levels of tolerance for certain language etc. and what is offensive to some, is water off a duck's back to others. Nevertheless, I do think everyone's become a little too sensitive and we should all try and chill a bit more. Myself included.
 
I will add that I have never used a racial swear word toward another human in anger or rage as for those who missed it I witnessed these foul words being used by QPR supporters in Z6 against blackburn rovers when Chris samba scored
 
Sounds like racism to me and having a girlfriend whom is mixed race I don't take kindly to those sort of comments despite how people spin it.
 
I think Swords and DT are missing the point.

We all know the words used are unacceptable. It's the fact that we all know it - that forces the mods into action, making us have to choose whether to risk letting it pass (creating precedents leading to escalations) or getting all punitive and/or censor-ish.

What happened to self-moderation aka respect for others? Why the need to pull up **** deliberately provoking reactions that threaten to divide our board?

Fact is this part of the internet ain't free. The site owners want larger football boards moderated but they're willing to let us do it ourselves. That means keeping to BASIC standards as set in the house rules (click my sig.). Their pretty simple. They go like this.

Basic Standards

The site appoints moderators for those boards considered sufficiently active.

The site’s Super Moderator, Cyprussydsafc, has posted an introduction (see ‘Announcement: Welcome to not606’ just above the big red + Post a New Thread button on the board’s front page.

In this Syd sets out the site’s ideas about basic standards amongst other things.

Whilst the site’s policy appears to be to avoid too many rules for obvious reasons, it does ask that each board agrees a set of ‘house rules’ with its members.

Basic standards for us has to involve levels of respect for others and the need to avoid personal insults with particular regard to our human differences on gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation; and religious and/or political beliefs.

Whilst this is not an exhaustive list, that’s about it really.

Anything more than this will usually have to be put to us by you as members as a request for moderation.

Not difficult is it? It's what our members said they wanted as standards when we put them together from Syd's introduction. So let's get off this sensitive pc bollocks, them's the rules and we're obliged to comply with them.

My problem is why should we mods have waste our bit of me-time clearing up **** because big people can't or won't control themselves? As mods we discuss our actions and do everything we can to keep things easy - but the use of the 'n' word and another disrespecting physical disability was truly taking the piss out of our mods as far as I'm concerned. That ain't going to happen on my watch. I'd rather go and amuse myself elsewhere.

If we'd prefer Syd or others to mod our board then just say so - and we'll see what the rest of the members really think. ****ing behave.
 
the mods we have are doing a great job
some people just need to re read their posts before pressing the post button
wont be half as much fun on here with syd and the rest doing the modding

First of all...the mods are doing a great job...and a thankless task but I think we all thank you for it.
One of the most important points made by Brixton.

This is the whole 10yards....and what has so upset me about the Terry affair.....Terry used the words (at this point I am not getting into the argument about to who and when) but he used the words F****** B**** C*** the Sunday Times pointed out the only one they were not legally obliged to block out was the word in question black...interesting!

The mods cannot let things like this go, because the "thought police" jump in and demand retribution...which I think was what DT was trying to show in his rather gum-booted way. He deliberately provoked, expecting a reaction from the mods and eventually he got it....he got is because the semi-silent majority demands it.

I a woman, I feel that on the whole I do not swear ( a few creep through..mostly low-rated words), I don't know why I just don't (my father did like a trooper) I feel I am not a racist, I am also a very bad feminist...even though I have experienced it a lot at work, I still feel I can rise above it at work, by just being better...I come on this board, eyes wide open, I am not shocked, upset or disgusted by what anybody says. I also stand by everyones right to say what they really feel. I get really upset when people get pilloried for Taarb is rubbish...it is their right to say that.

Brix is so right, we must self moderate...it is OK for DT to test the water to show us our frailties...but he must also self moderate. BUT so must the thought police who jump on him (and so provoke him to further excess) they to must also self moderate.

Rant over...off to the grindstone.....and my daily battle against discrimination

Well, now we all know the reason for the thread. I 100% agree with Brix that there is no place on Earth (let alone this board) for the use of the word.
 
Jeez - a weekend off, and look what happens when I'm not here as the voice of reason.... :)

Entitled as I am to my $0.02:

1. ALL of the mods I have seen on Not606 do a thankless job for no reward. Some (on other team boards) are more than a little biased towards their own team, and there have been one or two occasions where I've wondered whether particular posts have been moderated more out of a sense of loyalty to the shirt rather than in the best interests of the board. However, that has NEVER happened on this board, and it's a great tribute to the mods we have on the QPR board. Certainly they do the job better than I could on here. I'm a mod on other boards, and I know it's not an easy job at times.

2. As members, we kind of have an inherited duty not to make their lives any more difficult than it needs to be. We are members here not as a right, but as a priviledge. We are here because of a shared love for QPR, not to have a vehicle for unrestrained self-expression - and when we do step over the line and are modded, you can be certain that it was necessary. Nobody gets moderated to give the mods self-gratification.

3. DT, I'm sorry, but there ARE some words that, no matter how you say you use them, will always be offensive. You have used two of them recently (the cause of this thread) and whether you say you are using them ironically, or sarcastically, doesn't matter. The words themselves are inherently offensive. As an extreme example, if (during some banter during the upcoming 4x400m competition) an Olympic 400m runner turned to Oscar Pistorious and called him a 'f*****g s*****c c**t", would he have any defense? No, of course not. The same way that, had JT used the words "F*****g n****r c**t", he would have been in even more trouble than he was last week (and probably still is with the FA). Some words themselves have become offensive no matter what context - you don't use them in society, unless you are intending to offend people. And there's no justification. That goes for on here as well.

Beth and others have mentioned self-moderation. That's the only way that you can post without any fear of Brix stepping in - if you do his job for him before hitting the Post reply button.
