Off Topic Humber Bridge

I totally agree, I have that and also an account for the Dartford Crossing, both charge you the fee automatically every time you cross. As far as I can see the only way to do that with the Humber Bridge is to have a balance on your account that the fee is charged against which is tantamount to giving them and interest free loan (unless I have misunderstood the process).
Exactly as I understand it. Robbing bastards!

No that’s correct they have had a couple of hundred quid of ours on account for years.I have just thought of another con here it’s been £1.50;for years its now gone up to £2.00 one hell of a jump .We also received a discount on the cost to £1.40 because we had an account no mention of a discount now though .

We have an account and have had for years . When we originally set it up you received a physical tag to put in the windscreen of the Veichle .
These cost £15.00 each and over the years we have accumulated five of these ,since covid you do not receive a physical tag just register the registration number .We have been told that the tags will be credited to the account as the system has changed so we will be expecting £75.00 credit against our account .I will not be holding my breath waiting for it .
We've had our 3 tags credited ... have you set up the new account yet (look at the email that was sent out to all account holders this morning allegedly).

Our account balance has been carried over and the refunded £45 shows as a separate transaction.

Personally I don;t get everyone's beef with the new system. It's 2026 FFS, although I agree they have ****ed up by not having the app ready.

If you think you may use the bridge some time in the next two years, create an account, prepay a tenner, set up auto topup with a low balance value of £5 and you never have to worry about it again unless you change your car reg.

It should be like the London congestion charge, set up an account, provide a payment method, then every time you go through it takes the money. No topping up, paying ahead, auto topups. Why do they make it so easy to slip up?

Unless I've missed something of course, always a possibility...
That is exactly what you can do for Humber Bridge I think

EDIT - I read your post wrongly. You have to pre buy I think

Exactly my point! Why should they sit on my money even if it's only a tenner? And how many tenners are they sitting on? And why 2 years? It's 2026 ffs keep it as simple as possible!

I just paid for yesterday and today or at least I bought 4 credits.... what I dont get is, why do they need to know the make model and colour of the vehicle. If you log in to pay dart charge you enter your registration number and it tells you and asks you to confirm (as I recall)... it also then tells you how many journeys you owe for... that twat in charge of this is one of those that makes lists of lists...

Checking for false plates maybe?

The UK must be one of the worst countries in Western Europe for infrastructure and maintenance. Everything just seems to take longer than anticipated, loads of red tape and inefficiency and it costs loads. Doesn’t matter if it’s a bridge, a road, a power plant or a series of public gardens named after a monarch.
Completely agree.
Youve only got to look how fast the likes of Llidl and Aldi can manage to get their stores built knowing that there are time lines and a need to get things up and running .

Just started my account for two cars so it needed £20 payment for a balance.

You can then choose auto top up so whenever it drops below £10 it will add some so you don’t miss payments. Useful if you’re going across a lot I suppose, although it seems to want a debit card rather than credit for that.

Rest seemed straight forward, but quite why they need a balance rather than just a saved card to take payments from I don’t know.

Because some people stop their cards to avoid payment, or their cards expire. It’s an anti-thieving **** measure I’m afraid!

Aye
They’d probably be able to get it in the end, but would cost so much to chase up then this is probably the easiest option (apart from stopping charging of course, but as it stands the 4 Councils would have to pay to run it so that’s not great either)
