Off Topic Humber Bridge

I thought that was the case BB... but now there are how many fewer staff with the closing of the booths??.. and as for the upkeep of the bridge, the road surface is a disgrace... it will be interesting to watch the pandemonium it causes at rush hour morning and evening at the roundabout. The toll booths actually staggered the flow/approach of cars to the roundabout now there will be a constant stream and cars backed up on the roundabout approach.
Yeh it's gonna be chaos for sure

According to the report Look North did there's no cuts to staff numbers because of the toll booth closures.

I wonder what their job will be...? directing traffic...

Like many here I use the bridge. good deal, there are no traffic lights at the roundabout itself... if you travel up the A63 east and come off at the bridge exit, you firstly have to give way to traffic from your right, traffic which will use the same exit travelling west. when you then eventually get onto the dual road if you want go to Willerby or across the bridge you are stuck and not helped by the lights for the Business Park... now imagine this, all the cars coming off the bridge at peak time (or any time) now not staggered by toll booth payment. You give way to that traffic from your right... for traffic to move it will be dependent on someone coming up Boothferry Road to turn to Willerby or go straight on, or someone coming from Willerby wanting to turn right toward the A63 and that won't be tens of cars but the odd one...

I spoke to someone about this once and he said, the issue is, the road to and from the bridge is owned by the HB, the A63 and slip is controlled by Highways England and the surrounding roads controlled by ERYCC... and thats where the **** hits the fan... whether thats the case or not someone will say...

This has got the smell of a right royal feck-up to it....The on-line system crashes, the telephone system crashes...And PayPoint...What the feck is that? Just because they wanted to save a few quid by getting rid of staff, and increase the cost behind the motorists back. I'll be waiting for the Labour style U turn.

A lady whom I often speak to on the toll booths told me that her and a number of others were served notice, that once the booths close they'd lose their jobs, perhaps the full truth isn't being admitted

This is a complete bollocks.... I just went to pay for my crossings yesterday. You would think that entering your registration it would show the crossings you made and date (like at Dartford).... BUT NO..... enter your registration, type of vehicle, model, colour and then how many crossings you want to make, not pay for crossings already made.!@@!@!@@@@

Oh and if you have a TAG account, you have to go back and re register... so you're going to get ****ed for that too unless they've told you...

We have an account and have had for years . When we originally set it up you received a physical tag to put in the windscreen of the Veichle .
These cost £15.00 each and over the years we have accumulated five of these ,since covid you do not receive a physical tag just register the registration number .We have been told that the tags will be credited to the account as the system has changed so we will be expecting £75.00 credit against our account .I will not be holding my breath waiting for it .

We have 2 tags but not seen anything credited yet. Maybe you have to physically hand them over.

I use bridge lots for work, maybe 40-50 times a year
so ive set up an account, and used the auto top up, as i claim it all back anyway.
i have asked how soon the journeys log on to your account, and theyve told me a few days-
thats what im concerned about, i dont trust the system to work and dont want any fines for non payment when its the system not picking me up, etc
making my first journey friday and wanted to look immediately after arriving to check it was logged.
maybe im a dinosaur but i prefered the toll booths and getting my ticket in hand.

Pull it down and drive around or get the ferry.

Back in the 70's our kid was an apprentice at Scunthorpe United. That was when Richard Money played for them and then they signed that twat Botham who couldn't play. I used to drive around for the night matches and race to catch the ferry back after the full time whistle. If we had to drive back we would always call in the Crest hotel for a pint.

Ah the memories. Happy days.

App update
As announced via our social media channels yesterday, the app is not available yet. We’re working hard to get this resolved and will let you know when the app is live.

Here we go ,how after years of pre planning is the app not ready to go live the same time as the booths close.?.
Please refer to my post #27...I wish I'd put a monkey on it.

It should be like the London congestion charge, set up an account, provide a payment method, then every time you go through it takes the money. No topping up, paying ahead, auto topups. Why do they make it so easy to slip up?

Unless I've missed something of course, always a possibility...
I totally agree, I have that and also an account for the Dartford Crossing, both charge you the fee automatically every time you cross. As far as I can see the only way to do that with the Humber Bridge is to have a balance on your account that the fee is charged against which is tantamount to giving them and interest free loan (unless I have misunderstood the process).
