Grayson

I found that list mind boggling. Average at best. If that's what we can hope for why not just pay Grayson off, pay one of them off before they even join and get Ball back in charge.

Unfortunately recent history and poor ownership has set a culture of knee-jerk management hiring and firing which some fans are happy to go along with.

How recent seems to have been like that since I began following the club and in the early 1960's. Infact it seems to have been that way since we were financially decimated in the 50's for "undertable cash inducements" (rife in football at the time), when we were the" bank of England club.

If nothing else having Kev back at the club would give the fans a life and a bit of a feel good factor. Until the following home game.

That's it yeah, I don't know how good of a coach he is other than he's been consistently employed but what we need more than anything else is some pride and identity back. I'm convinced that the manager and players are good enough to climb the table if they enjoyed great support at home. Not saying that signing Phillips would make that happen but it's a step towards it.

Plus if Grayson did eventually go then you've got the perfect person ready and waiting to replace him.

It’s got to be worth a punt, Kev is a shining beacon of the last time the club actually looked capable, I know we’ve had 10 years PL since but the reality is the Reid years are the last time we were genuinely close to breaking out of mediocrity. he was the centrepiece of that.

That was my Great Grandad (Ditchburn). He was the chairman then.

We weren't sacking a manager then

I was going to go on the Derby board and see if they had any opinion on him as a coach but it's one of those with one new thread a year that nobody replies to.

Whatever, got to be worth a punt as you say. Both Stockdale and Grayson are ex CBs and there's no evidence of it on the pitch so it'd be worth dropping Stockdale and seeing what Phillips can do at the other end. We've got three or four promising young attackers who could well benefit.

I think Stockdake is useful but I’m not sure the current role is best for him just now. I’d certainly keep him at the club.

:emoticon-0148-yes: well you probably know more than me about this then but goodness imagine if we'd sacked the manager - complete meltdown
:emoticon-0112-wonde if we had though where would we be now..... imo - not needing to beat Bristol City & Bolton at home <doh>

They've all managed at top level unlike Grayson.

Karanka would be an incredible appointment.

Weinzierl did exceptionally well at Augsburg in the Bundesliga and probably made a mistake going to Schalke.

The others are all a level above Grayson

How though? Justify what you’re saying.

I’m all for replacing Grayson if the right man is there, Karanka absolutely wouldn’t be incredible his ceiling was hit very early.

Augsburg finished 6th off the back of a great start and a limp over the line, on that basis there’s 612 managers available.

Monk was the appointment, we tried, we failed. Just because we don’t rate Grayson that doesn’t mean throwing darts is the solution.

This is a huge job, make no mistake.

Weinzierl spent 36 million at Ausberg, a lot of money in Germany. First couple of seasons he had nowt to spend and was right in a relegation dogfight both seasons(won me a fair bit of money those to seasons as they were a banker to bet against). Not exactly a good fit. As for Karanka he had a promotion push fully funded and plays dreadful negative football. Both will be on make or break jobs next and will surely want a more stable job than this one. Both no goers imo with no evidence either could handle the situation even if they wanted the job.

Don't believe for one second Super Kev would join us at this point.

I could see it if he's got genuine affection for the club. He's only at Derby and as an assistant manager with us there'd be little to no pressure. It'd be a step down but still in the same league so not impossible by any means for me.

Just think it's a risky first job for anybody, risk for them, risk for us. Reid with Philips as a number two would make way more sense if you want to take the affection route, but I'm not convinced the affection route is the answer, I don't think there is an answer under current restrictions. Squad needs around 15m-20m in jan, we need a striker, they cost, either in fee or in wages of a loan. We need a cb and ideally a midfielder and that money just ain't coming.

I do only mean as Grayson's number two just to clarify, I don't think he'd come to replace Grayson and I wouldn't want him to, we need experience to guide us at the moment. I just think it'd give the fans a lift to have him as a visible presence at the club and he must be a decent number two because he's been doing it a while.

Ah, sorry, my bad. <ok>:)

Yeah I'd have Kev on the coaching staff all the days long
