Can you imagine the aero work in designing them, then someone actually producing them to high tolerances!! Amazing work, it's a pity we don't see more of the components that go into each car.

Wasn't that something the FIA were supposed to do with upgrades in a show all type thing on a Friday/Saturday?

They are.

The shot of the alpine new floor shipped in last race was also very basic.

It seems to be about laminar flow on the underside and the blown diffuser at the back


I would love to see the red bull underside

I bet Merc would as well :-) The more I see of the floor the more I wonder about how the wider bit in the middle influences the downforce balance. i.e. move it back and more rear downforce move it forward and more front end?
It's almost like Merc have too much downforce when they run at the low ride height they would like too. I wonder how they can either bleed off the suction when it gets too low or maybe tweak the dampers to try and limit the speed of oscillation but would that have an impact on fast chicanes and changes or direction.

It must be a lot more complex than that, but without being able to reproduce it in a controlled environment it must be so difficult to work on a solution.
As soon as they work out how to stop the bouncing and run low ride height I believe Merc will be so much quicker.

The merc floor starts too far back compared to ferrari and red bull so I am assuming there is some form of increased rear bias there

The floor is also too flexible so they are losing the attachment of the flow and the air under the car is lost.

They are also not outwashing as much air and the sealing vortices seem to be less powerful/starting later.

They seem to have gone with an assumption about managing airflow around this former barge board area and minimised side pod and so have got the outwash and floor vortices wrong

Have insurance here looking at the cars after they all got battered with hail last week. And I'm frantically looking at the clock....

It's interesting to see how much is actually in the rear wheel assembly in terms of aero.

The alpine brake/tyre fire and explosion threw loads of this stuff out and basically blew the tyre off as well.
 
Ferrari very tight lipped on what they are bringing this weekend other than to say there are things coming.

The rumour mill is:

“Changes to the Ferrari are expected to revolve around efforts to reduce both drag and weight – and could include a new lower drag rear wing and modifications to the sidepods and floor.”

Looks like a lot of teams are playing with these new rear wing iterations - I think we will see Ferrari, Alpine, and McLaren all trialling new versions this weekend.

This thing ought to have some downforce from what we’ve seen this season- be interesting to see how the others evolve with a super High DF set up
