You’re asking why four year olds wouldn’t take the knee before school?

You’re aware that footballers are fully grown adults with social depth and the ability to understand context, whereas primary school children are children, right?

If a child took the knee before a game, I wouldn’t mind. Footballers don’t have to take the knee, they aren’t forced to. There have been several games this season where we haven’t. They choose to do it.
You only have four year olds at your school? Amazing

Footballers are under pressure to do so. Just like some claim they are under pressure to wear a poppy.

But of course, people are free to choose not to do it. There shouldn’t be pressure to do either of those things, it should be a personal choice.

I disagree with Dion Dublin, it doesn’t make you a racist not to take a knee.

I asked, the people of Hull are fine with it as long as I eat two Bob Carvers a week and volunteer at Aunt Bessie’s for a month over Summer.

And coat everything with curry sauce and chip spice.

That great intellectual, Terry Geraghty, was complaining about people coming into Hull and using the facilities. He thinks they should be charged. Don't think he understands the concept of tourism and how to attract tourists.

Therefore nobody should be criticised for expressing their views and booing the political nonsense.

Does it make you a racist if you disagree with those who do?

If you disagree with the act of taking a knee, then no, you’re not a racist. If you disagree with what it represents (anti-racial discrimination), then in my view, yes.

If taking a knee is anti-discrimination, then isn’t being against that anti-anti-discrimination? Which is pro discrimination isn’t it?

Try sticking to the point. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Aye, but both racist and LGBTQ discrimination are against values that people don’t choose to have. So, would it be acceptable to boo actions that promote lgbt equality? No, of course not.

If the problem in this is the actual act and not the message, then that’s what needs to be articulated, a banner or flag or something. Just generally booing sends the wrong message out, which is where I think DD got the wrong end of the stick.

You're trying to conflate two non related issues in a poor attempt to dig yourself out of the hole you've dug.

BLM is a political movement. It has no place in football. Taking the knee is seen as support for BLM. If tackling racism is the genuine aim, football is the wrong arena, as it has probably the least issues with racism of any industry, as it is by its very nature a meritocracy. The message is now being manipulated to accuse anyone that's pointing out the emptiness of this gesture, is somehow a racist. That is not a doctrine any truly free minded person should in any way support or excuse.

Everyone should be free to express their opinion, by what ever legal options are available.

Oh stop it, please. Every time you pull this “dig yourself out of a hole” pop psychology bull **** in an attempt to play down what I’ve said. It doesn’t work, just stop.

The two issues are both of discrimination, that’s how they’re linked, and we both know it would be wholly unacceptable to boo support for LGBT equality because that would send out the message that it’s not what people want.

Whether you like it or not, sport is a part of society, just like media, fashion and education. And, as a result of that, the issues that impact one overlap into each other. People might not like it, but that happens and they’ll just have to deal with it like big boys and girls.
If a footballer wants to use their platform to get a message out, they can. They’re the highest paid people in the country on a global platform, it’s probably the best place to get a message out and given that the message is no to discrimination and racism, it’s a pretty worthwhile cause.

If BLM is that much of a sticking point for you, fine. Nobody is forcing you to agree with it, leave them to it. We are very lucky that as a nation we haven’t had racial issues to the extent that have driven people to the scale of riots and destruction in the US. It doesn’t mean it’s gone and it very clearly is still a problem, otherwise organisations like Kick it Out wouldn’t exist.

Football shouldn’t be political, in an ideal world. But we don’t live in an ideal world, do we?

So suck it up. They’re going to kneel for as long as it takes, which could be anywhere from now until forever.

Deal with it.

Ah, you're back to the long monologue and weak attempts to be outraged and dismissive. It maybe works on four year olds, but you need your big boy pants on outside of that bubble.

You haven't addressed any of the points raised, you've gone for obfuscation and drivel. People will read into that what they will.

Read it. Read it properly and stop being dismissive to try and avoid what I said.

I’m bloody sick of people using the Poppy as a political ball to kick.
We all bloody well know it’s there to remember the loss of life in conflict regardless of what colour they are. Any bloody colour. The bullets and bombs don’t pick and choose. It’s a tradition in this country. If we can’t have a few days a year to try and realise that it’s maybe not a good idea to go to war then let’s just give up.

leave the Poppy alone.
