Aye, can't be doing with foreigners can we.

Racism is only political when people make it so to suit their own agenda. Football has no divine right to ignore racist behaviour any more than any other walk of life has.

There were better cases to hang this campaign on than this vicious, drug peddling thug though.

Ignore racist behaviour!! I imagine there is racist behaviour going on all round the world constantly. How many other rituals do we have to perform?
It’s highlighted how terrible some police conduct is in the US
In our country? Not so much.

It's also one of, if not the least racist industries, as the number of BAME's it's made very wealthy can testify to.

If society has a problem, then society should resolve it, and not try to put the burden on a non-associated area, and particularly not through a specific political movement, as that is undemocratic. It's effectively claiming that YOU are racist.

C'mon Chazz, you know better than that.

Society. Society consists of it's constituent parts, calling on 'society' to do something is one of the biggest copouts going.

I disagree, but I would say that a far bigger cop out is lumping it on an industry that is by its very nature a meritocracy, and probably creates more wealthy BAME's than any other, especially when it's promoted for political ends.

Which proves that a political movement is the wrong voice to platform it, especially in the wrong arena. It doesn't support your initial claim about poppies either way.

The symbology of taking a knee has transcended politics, just like the poppy has. It isn’t praising BLM, it’s showing that football, like other sections of society, are willing to take a stand against racism. We know there’s racism in football, football has taken the decision unilaterally to stand up to it. If football should just be about football, then tell that to the fans who make monkey chants or players who whisper racist comments in opposition ears.

Players who make racist comments should be banned for life, just like fans are.

Clearly, a lot of people disagree with the opinion you express in the first line. The poppy hasn't 'transcended' politics, it was never political in the first place.

None of that supports your initial claim or justifies football being used as a vehicle for a political movement.

War is political. I’d go as far to say that after actual politics, it’s probably the most political thing that exists.

There are absolutely political issues with not wearing one, ask John Snow (the broadcaster, not the Game of Thrones guy) or James McLean.

I don’t mind people disagreeing, that’s fine. In fact, it’s the best way to stimulate discussion. The fact that people disagree with taking the knee and are seeking alternative methods to combating racism is brilliant, so long as the replacement for the knee isn’t “nothing at all”. We’ve tried “nothing at all”, that doesn’t work.

What racism are you talking about in this country?

The poppy is not political.
