put pep in charge of England and they would still lose in the semi-final on penalties

Sorry, for clarity's sake, are you suggesting a proven world class, generational talent of a manager who has won absolutely everything there is to win in football would be no better at getting the England to perform than Gareth Southgate who once won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach award?

Surely that can't be true.

He left Boro having done nowt back in 2009

" It was with Boro that Southgate had his first experience of management too, taking over as boss in the summer of 2006 following the departure of Steve McClaren to take over as England manager.

During his three seasons in charge, he led them to 12th place in the Premier League in his first season and continued to build on that in the following campaign before he left in October 2009 following their relegation to the Championship."
That’s why I said not 100%

I'm not completely for or against Southgate, think he's done a good job overall without being able to finish the ultimate task. Think being an international coach is so much harder than club football in terms of you have such little time with the players and you have to rely on the players you think fit and want in your side, Kalvin Phillips for example, actually playing club football and not dropping off a cliff form wise. Think we could play more expansive football though and some of the selections are confusing.

He'd probably have a statue outside of Wembley if we were any good at pens though.

There is a scenario if England win and Scotland win they both progress to the knockout stages
However it is also possible if Scotland win and England loose England go through as third place best team and Scotland fail

Jarca, Scout and all other Scottish lads. What do you think of Gilmore? I watch him briefly, but have a poor opinion of him. Plays in that deep lying continuity role but seema quite limited to me. Doesnt play on the half turn enough? Scotland need a brave pass or two tonight - hope he can make it. I want Scotland to progress so hoping he is more than I see
