There are players who can play up front, and at some point I'm sure will do, classes as midfielders. Sterling and Walcott for starters. Why not bring in Zaha, Shelvey, Jack Grealish ffs!

It really is ridiculous.

Zaha is eligible for U21s and hasn't been picked, so getting him for the senior squad would make the u21s a complete force.

Roy said that he didn't pick Grealish because he's play against Ireland and didn't want him to get a hostile reception. However, he was fine with giving Kane first start against arguably the hardest defence to play against. And Grealish is eligible for u21s too

A lot of what he (Woy) says makes no sense to be honest, I agree with what Hat says

Spell check really was a great invention.

You can't say though that the U21s takes priority and then pick players eligible for the senior squad, even if Southgate has deemed them not good enough as in Zaha.

I don't think Grealish has done enough yet to earn a senior call.

Was very interesting listening to Southgate talking about his squad selection and saying that its about evolving to a more possession based game and he's picked players which fit into that. If only Roy did the same, Shelvey deserves a shot, but I don't see why Walcott and Welbeck are in it either. Theo's just back from injury and Welbeck is just Welbeck

So much bitterness

Fact is, you lot know nothing about Vardy, if you he played for Burnley you'd not bother, you just take it personally coz its Leicester. Not all strikers need to score 20 odd, the fact he has so many assists means nothing does it? Give the lad a chance before you write him off but no, he plays for Leicester so of course not.
As for Deeney, he's never proved himself anywhere but the championship, albeit for a short time
As of yet, Vardy has

This is just funny. You'd rather have a player who runs around a lot rather than a goalscorer. I'd immediately swap Deeney for any one of our strike force
.that player who runs around a lot has the third most assists in the PL this season ...it's not just about who actually puts it in the net ... if they don't get given the bullets ...

Why didn't any of our lads get called up last season, Curtis Davies was 100 times more worthy of a call up then Vardy is now, so he's been good for 8 games, that isn't a season!
... in your opinion of coutse ... you'd have been laughed at for such a notion (the cap that is) on other boards ...

...suggesting Jack Grealish is ...

I don't think people mind that Austin and Heaton are in the team. Austin should have been in it months ago based on his performances. The issue is that Vardy has got 4 goals all season and quite frankly, he doesn't deserve to be included and shouldn't be in the squad

Who does "deserve" it then?

The difference is, last season at least, Davies was amongst the best in the league in his position.

I appreciate what Vardy brings to a dour anti football side like Leicester or ourselves, but England? Jog on.

Charlie Austin isn't good enough either.

I appreciate the fact that a good amount of talent is at the u21's but this could have been a chance to bring in some slightly older talent that may actually have a future in the national team. Vardy just doesn't, imo neither does Austin, these are just token call ups wasting what could be vital experience on the international stage for others.

<doh>

I sort of agree, the way Vardy plays, while effective for Leicester, isn't really representitive of how England play. I'd have taken Peter Crouch back in, as his record for England is very good and he's a nightmare for defenders at set pieces. I'd have taken Jonjo Shelvey, I think he's had a cracking season at Swansea and has been the heart beat of their midfield for some time.

For Vardy to be in the England squad means that he's the best in his position that we can call upon at this moment in time, it's only because the likes of Sturridge, Ings, Kane and Berahino aren't available that he's there. It does not make him one of the best four English strikers in the country, which is what I've been hearing from some of my Leicester supporting mates.

I don't think many of us believe that he's one of the top 4 English we have.

But he's been absolutely fantastic for us, and played a massive part in our great escape.
We are delighted for him, and understandably so.

He was absolute dog **** for 31 games, he looked way out of his depth. He's turnednitnon and had a decent 8 games. He's still ****.

Even if we hd two u21's tournaments, he shouldn't even make the B team.

I take issue with it because he's absolutely ****ing ****e. You lot can take your outrage and **** off. He's ****e, you know it, I know it, end of story.

I'll judge him better when I see him in the champions league next season for Chelsea/Man City/Bayern Munich...

Vardy's call-up reminds me of Vassell's. OK, Vassell had more quality on the ball, but his main attributes were similar: pace, teamwork and nuisance value.

... we had Vassell too - quality on the ball? couldn't trap a wet bag of cement ... Vardy is far better IMHO

He most certainly wouldn't...

He's 28 <laugh>

... you'll be wishing you had him on Sunday - he scored 1 and made the other 4 of our 5 goals against Man Utd at our place ... confident that you have someone in your squad that will have that impact?
