Hodgson said the U21s would have priority this summer. He presumably wants big players to get used to playing jn tournaments. Ings, like Kane, probably would have been picked if he was available.

I don't think Vardys that bad at all. He's better than most of our strikers but he seems to be considered **** just because he plays for Leicester and used to play in non-league. He's shown in the last few weeks that he's a handful at this level.

He's a handful, until he goes to shoot....this is why he gets so many assists, he fluffs it and someone else puts it in on the rebound.

Of course not he isn't a striker, Vardy is.

Who would you put in ahead of him based on Ings, Berahino and Kane being unavailable?

As I already said, I wasn't aware that Ings was in the U21's and it's him I'd have got ahead of Vardy.

Basically he's only in because there's no-one else, so it's fair enough, as long as we don't actually have to play him.

What's that based on? Obviously I'm only going on MOTD but he looks a good finisher on there. Look at his one-on-one goal against Man Utd earlier in the season and try to picture Hernandez doing the same thing.

No, me neither.

Woy should've thrown caution to the wind and called up Callum Wilson and Troy Deeney. Both will be PL players next season and have 41 goals between them. Deeney has 21 this season, that's more than Rooney and Vardy combined...

... nice to see a balanced response .... as I said to Fettis on the post on our board

"... not being funny mate ... and this is not said in a partisan way ... but Vardy would arguably be far more effective against some of the pub teams we now play in major tournament qualifying than some of the players that England have used ...
I'm not disagreeing on the point that he is not up to the level of international players of say 10 - 15 years ago ... but if you take this season he has given complete run arounds to the likes of Rojo, Fernandez, Blind, Janmaat, Fonte, Alderwireld, Lovren and Mertersaacker ... to name but a few ... now correct me if I'm wrong but didn't some of them play in a final, semi and quarters of some prestigious footballing event last summer? "

... for the record, OLM is right about Ings being the better prospect (even if he did miss the U21 factor <laugh>) ... but Vardy has played a huge role in our survival this season and in the recent run of games has caused all sorts of bother to 'international class' defenders ... Roy has been to watch us a couple of times recently, so he should know exactly what he's getting ...

Vardy should be nowhere near an England squad, that he is is a damning indictment of the state of our game.

Well done to him, a testament of effort over ability. If Huddlestone, Livermore, Curtis Davies had half his application we wouldnt be in the ****

You're doing Vardy a disservice.

If he wore Black and Orange you'd be saying things like "thank god we're not playing some mercenary like Joe Bloggs".

Fact is he's better than any option Roy has.

Better than Danny Ings and that's a fact. If Vardy was 22 then you'd all want him playing for England. He's also in form and was nominated for April player of the month.

I'm not going to sit here and say that Vardy has the talent of an international but he certainly has the endeavor, team spirit and that "i'd rather him play for us than against us" trait that all good pests have.

There's not another English Striker i'd have infront of him that's not either already in the squad, in the U21 squad or injured.

He's got lucky in that respect, but he deserves his luck and i'm over the moon for the lad.

Kane, Berahino, and Ings would all be in front of Vardy and rightly so, but the England squad as a whole is awful.

Thank god, there's a lot of promising players coming through.

Great for Vardy though, happy to see players getting a chance who aren't at big clubs

Just heard Woy on the radio saying he'd picked somebody on the basis of their club form, so why did he pick none of our players last season then? Can't stand the guy, Austin deserves a call-up so this is about half a season too late, whereas the Vardy call-up is a joke

I haven't had much time to watch the Championship this year either but surely there must be better English forwards than Vardy playing there too

... OK you haven't seen much Championship football this year ... how much of Vardy have you actually seen? ... if you'd watched our last 8 games you'd realise how instrumental the little guy has been in our rather incredible finale ...
