I will cancel everything before I do this.

I don't know why they don't just open the beeb up to advertising

Every other platform has it, and people are used to skipping ads on every media the consume these days.

exactly, and like that barrister says in his video, this is a broadcasting company, weaponising the state against the population to avoid the consequences of their actions ie being **** and totally irrelevant for the last 20 years.
I've said many time, in the 21st century, the only thing produced by the BBC that I have been remotely interested in, is the Planet Earth documentaries and all the other Attenborough spin offs.
What the **** else is there to tempt us? Strictly? Eastenders? ****ing, Doctor Who? Like come on....this wouldnt be a license fee, it would be a state imposed tax! Unnacceptable!

I suppose the thing is, it's a public service broadcaster and therefore a machination of Govt.

Then again, show me a politician who is free of commercial interests ....

If the Labour MP got in with a big majority last time, then you'd think it would be a reasonably safe seat

And putting Burnham up for it, you would think would galvanise the Labour voters to come out and make sure he wins it

You never know though in the country at the moment. Farage has successfully frightened enough politically illiterate people to go out and vote for complete **** nuggets with zero experience who were only last week painting roundabouts
Josh Simons won it with over 18,000 votes, Reform came second, I'll round it up and say 13,000 votes. so a 5k majority. All the other parties were no where near.

Doubt Burnham would stand unless he really thought he could win - he'll probably have someone like Rayner as his campaigner. It's an area he knows well apparently.

Edit: see following updated post here...

Yeah, ads don't bother me on tv, I get pissed off with them on Youtube though. I've got an ad blocker, but I have to turn it off for my local rag, otherwise I have to pay subscription, and instead I just delete the cookies each read.

The danger for Labour at the moment is that they are so unpopular, Reform might put up a candidate (with zero experience other than retweeting anti muslim videos) and they will get in.

You'd like to think the electorate are brighter than that, but we all know that people vote for stupid ****e.
the "stupid" majority lol

Were taking England back from you pink haired lesbians

@PINKIE I need to correct my earlier numbers mate...

The last General Election result for Makerfield...

UK General Election: https://members.parliament.uk/member/5060/electionresult

However...

In the May 2026 local council elections, Reform UK secured a dominant victory across the eight local wards comprising the Makerfield constituency. They pushed the Labour Party into a distant second place. [1, 2]
The total combined vote share across the Makerfield wards was:
  • Reform UK: 50.4%
  • Labour: 22.7%
  • Green Party: 10.9%
  • Conservative: 9.9%
  • Liberal Democrat: 3.8%
  • Other: 2.2%

The other thing to consider, is that by putting Netflix and Amazon behind a BBC Paywall, they are going to be restricting access to those two, US Based, platforms. By costing them money, guess who that will piss off....that bell end over in the White house.
I am sure he will see that as the UK trying to hamstring US businesses and use that as an excuse to introduce some nice new tariffs or sanctions on the UK. You just know it.

More evidence that labour are disgusting

The BBC is done,

For the record, this is nothing to do with the
socio-politics of its workers, but moron hubris
of its tech groups going back to the beginning
of the 90s.

Too late mate, it's already progressing, they will change all drivers licences to digital, which will eventually see everything come under the same wallet - the driving licences are already under the private test stage.
