I would wager that the average age of the Brummies was at least 6 months over ours, so it's very encouraging that we dominated the game for long periods. The result was not too important, and I expect them to improve.

I can't betray my contact my revealing names, but one of the Bournemouth players initials is "Y.K"

It finished Charlton U21s 3 - Barnsley 0 at the training ground. The result flattered Charlton as Barnsley hit the woodwork three times. The First half was fairly even and it was 0-0 at half time. Charlton took the lead when Ansah was played through and finished well. The second followed a similar theme when Joe Aribo sent a good through ball which Ansah tucked away. Charlton completed the scoring when a ball came in from the left which was converted at the far post by Kennedy.

International youth caps are poor guides to later careers. None of the following starlets established themselves in the top two tiers and many soon slid into non-league football.

In a few cases injuries may have been a reason. Some of them are still young enough to climb back up the ladder, but that rarely happens. Harry Arter is the only one I can think of.

Just something to ponder when we think we have the next Scott Parker or Joe Gomez in one of our younger teams.

We are just one club. If other clubs have a similar rate of disappointment there must be thousands of youngsters capped by the home countries who never really make it big time. Do you think the British selectors are picking the wrong ones, or do other nations have a similar "failure" rate?

Tobi Sho Silva is a shadow of the player he was when I first saw him. Harriott doesn't seem to be learning at all. On Monday on a number of ocassions he beat a few players and then gave the ball away. His final ball is awful. It doesn't matter how many players you beat if you can't pass or cross or choose the wrong option.
Ollie Muldoon is another one I am disappointed with. Again when I first saw him I thought he was destined to be a first team regular. But he is going backwards and is a long way from the first team. The only players who looked like they could do a job for the first team were Lennon and Charles-Cook.

I think your list Bitter shows you how much easier it is to get into National youth teams. Logic Nego played for France from U16 to U20
 
That's quite an impressive list, B&M. And most of them are players I hoped to see in the first team one day. It's not just about ability, it's about what Wenger calls mental toughness, Morgan Fox is a good example.

I think that is right. And why, after being on the fringe of our first team at only 19 or 20, so many have sunk to sixth- or seventh-tier clubs at 26 or 27 when they should be at their peak. They just lose heart (Harry Arter again the exception).
 
We have a promising youngster called Bikey playing for the u21s this afternoon. I understand he is well developed for his young age.

Not helping us much at present, though. We are 0-1 down to Millwall after half hour.

I have just got in and I am now dry. That was a downpour of biblical proportions. We gave a very sloppy goal from a corner. Aribo showed some neat touches, Umerah made a couple of powerful runs. Bikey was constantly talking to his fellow defenders and organising them which was impressive as he has got no chance of getting a first team spot. There was precious little to report apart from an injury to Aaron Barnes.
 
Just some die hards forest. I also saw Jermaine Pennant and Keith Rhino Stevens, Neil Harris and Guy Luzon were also there. Ceballos was limping very badly and was talking to the driver of his car in Spanish.
 
Interesting to read Charles-Cook's comments after the match, that he was buzzing after the Hull game, and how pleased he was that there were so many Academy products on the bench. Obviously I am too, but I seem to be in a minority judging by the comment on Charlton forums. As R C-C says, Luzon has faith in Steve Avory to produce players for the first team. The phrase "not ready" seems to be much in use. Well R C-C is more ready now than he was a week ago. KAG is improving before our very eyes, and he seems to be a model pro. As Vol said, our win was due to great team spirit, and the Academy is playing a major part in this. Wonderful, innit?
