The club seem to be going the extra mile to give Osborne a final chance to recapture his early promise which was cut short by injury. Wen he broke his leg we were told it was not too serious, and the period of 10 weeks was even mentioned as the time before he would be training. It then went quiet for a long time and his recovery was quite tortuous. He seems fine physically now but is not the same player.

Reported tonight on the BBc sport website.

Joe has scored three goals in ten outings for County, but Justin Edinburgh says they are sending him back as they can no longer afford his wages.

I assumed we would have been paying most of his wages, leaving Newport only a lowish Div Two wage to pay? Had his stay been a success, it would have enhanced the value of our player.

Same with Buyens. As it happens, he has neither enhanced nor diminished his previous reputation playing for us, but if he had turned out a star it would have increased his value to Standard, and if he had flopped we wouldn't have wanted to be paying him Belgian top tier wages.

I hope we are not paying all of Bulot's wages. Our contribution should reflect his ability, Div One or Two level.

I don't like loans except in the case of sudden emergencies. Recent experience has shown they are mainly a device for pruning your squad of flops and trouble-makers.

It's a smokescreen from Newport as 1) they aren't short of money and 2) he admitted a week ago he was returning due to the fact the guy who the Pig was meant to push has started scoring again.

Plus Edinburgh said he was keen to renew four other loans. Does not reflect well on Pigott plus the fact that he did not impress at Gillingham either earlier this year.

Playing under Peter Taylor should be a good move for Lennon.

One for KAG and two for Pig last night as the U-21's won 3-0 at Colchester. Giving Bob a nudge?

I note Holmes-Dennis played in the FA Cup for Oxford today. That suggests that there is little prospect of his playing in our first team, at least until the *** end of the season when we might be out of promotion and relegation contention.

I don't have a problem with that so long as he doesn't get sold to Oxford with the Beast of Belgium gleefully brandishing the 50.000 quid (?) we would get for him as a financial masterstroke.

I am sure Tosan Popo's inspiring progress here encouraged him to join Charlton.

That's not a bad example. Tosan was given every chance to progress by the club, but wasn't able to make the step up. And if you look at players like Ben Davisson and Harry Osborne whose injuries stalled promising careers, the club went well beyond the extra mile to set them up and give them a chance to rebuild their careers at a lower level.

Silly argument. We are talking about some allegedly hot prospect being courted by a number of top clubs. Do you think he (or even his parents) are going to be motivated to join Charlton because several years ago we had some total unknown who was given every chance but didn't make it? Hardly the stuff of a young kid's dreams, is it? But that is the best that NewsNow can come up with.

It might persuade them that it's not just the Shelveys and Gomezes who get the attention. It would me.
