Car drivers can drive without passing a test and uninsured at their own risk. Any numpty can buy a car and drive it. A lot of footpaths are now dual pedestrian and cyclist. Some cyclists ride the footpaths because of the lunatics in cars trying to kill them. Some do it cos they are just idiots.

The uninsured, unlicenced drivers are a huge minority where it is every cyclist.

Dual use footpaths/cycleways are one thing but riding on any other footpath is illegal (and you actually see a few cases in Hull's courts each month)

I would disagree though as I think there are more idiot cyclists than motorists from my own experience (driving for 40 years & never had a speeding ticket, or ticket for any other motoring offence on 4 or 2 wheels...not even a parking fine)

Oh & I drive around 100k miles a year for work alone, do 5-6k a year on the motorbike & probably 800 a year on a bike

I agree with all of those things about a car, but in most cases you can be caught & punished for them all

Like I said, personally never had so much as a parking ticket (must be near 2.5 million miles driven now) & would never drink any alcohol & drive (and that means any alcohol at all)

Riding on a footpath isn't illegal, it's riding on a footway that can be an offence, but ACPO guidance suggests it should only be actioned in extreme cases, as they recognise some cyclists need to be kept safe from incompetent car drivers. Then again, cycling on a footway is often difficult due to cars parking on it.

Motor vehicles are allowed, subject to certain requirements, to use the roads that cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders can use freely as of right. The drivers of motor vehicles can have this privilege removed.

The courts have the power to disqualify a cyclist from driving a car for any offence, for such period as it thinks fit, for holding or obtaining a driving licence, so are actually subject to stricter laws than the car driver.

i save five-six mins in car to work so i always go by bike , never get stressed by the journey .
Over a year i risk getting wet about half a dozen times from the rain - though that is about the only negative to being on the old push iron

They require formal training yet so many car drivers cannot drive a car well at all. Not to mention speeding. Car drivers can drive without passing a test and uninsured at their own risk. Very little, if any of the formal training involves appropriate behaviour when sharing the road with vulnerable users. It'd be interesting to sit some drivers on a bike and get them to pedal for a while.

Yes you have. You've just never realised it. You said they were all unlicensed and uninsured. I'm insured and licensed to drive anything on the roads. I'm far from unique in that.

Your own comments on here show you lack knowledge, and basic road courtesy, so without even witnessing it, you show yourself as a bad driver.

Why ? I either drive or cycle to work . If I cycle the roads are actually less congested . I'm still the same person though .

Well I live in London and I can only assume that we get the worst breed of cyclists. The amount of s**t I see on a daily basis has just led me to hating them. Mainly because I'm a pedestrian/public transport person. I feel more threatened by cyclists than cars, so that's saying a lot. and the media isn't actually affecting my judgement at all as it's all personal experience. I see about 5/6 "going through red lights" a day in a 20 minute walk. I still see idiots on the pavement riding right next to a cycle lane.
I see many t**ts not dismounting on a bridge that has a massive yellow sign that asks them to.
I see myself having to wait at zebra crossings longer where I'm meant to have priority (yellow lit poles) than with cars who always stop.
I've seen a s**t load of them just having a go at drivers who aren't actually doing much wrong at all.
I saw an accident last week in front of my own eyes where a taxi had just slowed down at a T junction and the cyclists at speed just went right over the bonnet and started foul mouthing the cabby when the taxi was pretty much at a stand still.


THe list goes on. This is on a daily basis. I'm going out now and I'm guaranteed to see more of these.

And I've seen a ton of them with those Gopro cameras on their heads ready to film anything that may happen to them, well they've made me consider doing the same thing as a pedestrian.

Of course some cycle well and aren't c**ts but I didn't expect them to be in such small numbers . I used to think, oh it's just Clarkson and his stupid rants exaggerating etc... but from personal experience I've just naturally come to this conclusion. I'm assuming also that the more cyclists there are the likelier there are to be c**ts in there. So it might be much better in Hull.
And since the Olympics every f**ing c**t in London thinks they are Chris Hoy after buying a £1k bike. You can tell half of them don't even know the highway code , yet they want to share the roads with drivers.


Personally, I feel these ****s are in danger of damaging the public image, slowly but surely. Bus drivers already hate them, so do some drivers and soon pedestrians like me.
I don't think it's right for cyclists to get away with things motorists wouldn't. Penalties/fines should be identical. They are vehicles on a road. No different to motorcycles.

The really odd thing is, when I'm cycling I only see the ****ish things car drivers do. It's not until I'm driving that I notice the ****ish things cyclists do.

My personal pet hate, ninja cyclists riding at night with no lights and wearing dark clothing. No excuse for that.

How do you know what insurance a cyclist has ? Judging by your posts here you don't have a clue about it

I'm not sure why you're looking for it, but the number of insured cyclists shouldn't be that grey, as it comes with membership of certain cycling organisations. Two of the prominent ones, British Cycling has approaching 80,000 members and CTC has about the same. There are other insurances too.

The grey area would be "what's a cyclist?". I'd say that insurance for theft would be much, much higher, as it tends to be on the house insurance. Many home insurance policies cover for injury and damage too.

Also, a Department for Transport Study showed cyclists were found to be a fault in only 7 per cent of the incidents they were involved in, so the car drivers insurance is usually the one needed. My insurance covers the legal fees chasing the culprit.

Most of the dents in my car come from useless car drivers in car parks. I wouldn't mind, but I park right at the back out of the way, but there's usually some prick ignores the dozen empty spaces and has to snuggle up next to my car.

I'm only a driver, never really cycle.

Obviously there's examples of both who are twats, but I don't think people realise what proportion of car drivers are twats. For example almost everyone seems to beep their horn at another road user to have a go at them for making an error. Why; what's to gain from that? A lot of problems on the road seem to be people's anger. Often it's as if someone's waiting for an opportunity to be annoyed at another road user.

Also people think some rules aren't important but others are. Almost everyone stops driving properly in accordance with the rules after they pass their driving test. Many instructors don't even teach you to obey some of them, such as driving on the left (even if it's a slightly different colour tarmac).

My biggest pet hate though is on country roads when someone goes flying past you cos you're only doing 59. It amazes me how many people think risking death is worthwhile just to go a bit faster. Sometimes the manouvre is safe, but it's just the hurry these people are in, it can't be a good thing.
