Hate is a very strong word. How can you hate ALL cyclists? I'm just delightful.

Why ? I either drive or cycle to work . If I cycle the roads are actually less congested . I'm still the same person though .

I see, so that's why you are so keen on cycling. I understand a woman can obtain a similar effect by leaning against a washing machine in a certain way when it is on "spin cycle".

Last time I got on my bike I swallowed my saddle. Couldn't walk straight for a week.

I have no problems with Cyclists as I am one at weekends as well as a motorcyclist in good weather BUT I do believe there need to be some serious changes

    1. Cyclists should all have formal training
    2. Cyclists should observe the rules of the road & remember footpaths are for pedestrians not cyclists
    3. Cycles should have some form of registration so that those who break the law can be identified
    4. Cyclists should have insurance, I've had my car scraped on a number of occasions & a wing mirror broken by cyclists riding between cars

Shouldn't you have a few on there for drivers? After all, subject to a few caveats, cyclists let them borrow the highways too.

I didn't. I cycle to work most days, so on CTWD I decided to use public transport. It took over twice as long. Not going to do that again in a hurry.

I don't think so, there used to be a proper centre somewhere in Scunthorpe I remember reading but it was built on & there was a plaque erected celebrating the copper who had made cycling safer for those he taught there

They do something similar, my lad did it at school last year. Can't remember whether it was still called "cycling proficiency" though, I think it was something different (but the same principle).

I agree that some cyclist don't obey the rules of the road but an awful lot do. Probably a lot more do than car drivers who don't obey the rules of the road. Did you know that on certain roads cyclist can ride two abreast, and the twat who was driving the land rover who forced me to fall off my bike last week probably needs reminding of a few rules himself. Also a few weeks ago I got abuse because I overtook a bus from a passenger of a twat in a car who said I couldn't do that on a bike! Maybe car drivers need a bit of formal training about other road users.

Like I said, I'm driver, motorcyclist & cyclist, & most car drivers threat the latter two the same.

My issue is cyclists who ride on footpaths, over pedestrian crossings, through red lights etc & I see all of these every day. Only last week while stood at a level crossing (where I had been for 5 minutes) near York, a cyclist just rode straight past the parked cars & over the crossing (about 15 seconds before the 125 train shot through)

These are not isolated incidents, and while I agree car drivers are not perfect, they can at least be held accountable, unlike cyclists, and you can guarantee if a car driver hits a cyclist who ignores a red light the car driver will be blamed

I agree that there are some idiot cyclists out there. But in proportion to idiot car drivers I think there are many more than idiot cyclists. The road belongs to everyone and respect should be given for all users by all users.

But car & motorcycle drivers require formal training, can be identified & have to have insurance (we'll ignore VED as we know it's nothing to do with road tax)....any numpty can buy a bike & ride it with none of these things. I also agree about the road, but the footpaths belong to pedestrians not cyclists

It's more a case of being accountable for their actions

They require formal training yet so many car drivers cannot drive a car well at all. Not to mention speeding. Car drivers can drive without passing a test and uninsured at their own risk. Any numpty can buy a car and drive it. A lot of footpaths are now dual pedestrian and cyclist. Some cyclists ride the footpaths because of the lunatics in cars trying to kill them. Some do it cos they are just idiots.
