Hate is a very strong word. How can you hate ALL cyclists? I'm just delightful.

I'm usually already shagged by the time I've cycled home from work tbh. But I do have an awesome job and am a very happy driven positive person. Nothing like pulling on the skin tight lycra and riding a pedal driven recreational vehicle.

I have no problems with Cyclists as I am one at weekends as well as a motorcyclist in good weather BUT I do believe there need to be some serious changes
1. Cyclists should all have formal training
2. Cyclists should observe the rules of the road & remember footpaths are for pedestrians not cyclists
3. Cycles should have some form of registration so that those who break the law can be identified
4. Cyclists should have insurance, I've had my car scraped on a number of occasions & a wing mirror broken by cyclists riding between cars
Its cycle to work day today. Did any of you get your bike out this morning and join the commute on two wheels instead of four?

I passed my Cycling Proficiency Certificate in 1967 first time![]()
Congratulations, I passed mine in about 1970 I think, do kids still have to do them?

I agree that some cyclist don't obey the rules of the road but an awful lot do. Probably a lot more do than car drivers who don't obey the rules of the road. Did you know that on certain roads cyclist can ride two abreast, and the twat who was driving the land rover who forced me to fall off my bike last week probably needs reminding of a few rules himself. Also a few weeks ago I got abuse because I overtook a bus from a passenger of a twat in a car who said I couldn't do that on a bike! Maybe car drivers need a bit of formal training about other road users.
Like I said, I'm driver, motorcyclist & cyclist, & most car drivers threat the latter two the same.
My issue is cyclists who ride on footpaths, over pedestrian crossings, through red lights etc & I see all of these every day. Only last week while stood at a level crossing (where I had been for 5 minutes) near York, a cyclist just rode straight past the parked cars & over the crossing (about 15 seconds before the 125 train shot through)
These are not isolated incidents, and while I agree car drivers are not perfect, they can at least be held accountable, unlike cyclists, and you can guarantee if a car driver hits a cyclist who ignores a red light the car driver will be blamed
I agree that there are some idiot cyclists out there. But in proportion to idiot car drivers I think there are many more than idiot cyclists. The road belongs to everyone and respect should be given for all users by all users.
But car & motorcycle drivers require formal training, can be identified & have to have insurance (we'll ignore VED as we know it's nothing to do with road tax)....any numpty can buy a bike & ride it with none of these things. I also agree about the road, but the footpaths belong to pedestrians not cyclists
It's more a case of being accountable for their actions
