Unfortunately the first five Cobra meetings clashed with tennis and then it was time for the monthly week off so it’s no one’s fault really.
mmm I would be careful about putting all your eggs in one basket regarding the Times story?

This is kind of the point I was trying to make.
A lot of these problems are down to administration downfalls due to layers of red tape.
However, the government must take final responsibility and surely should have sorted these issues out by now?
I spoke to my sister yesterday and her life long friend is an administrator for the NHS (started as a hospital nurse then moved into care homes then onto admin). My sister said "The stories she told were shocking, especially in care homes where they pay staff nothing while the bosses drive around in flash cars. They are always cutting corners" .

Looks like it was just her every day symptoms flaring up to be honest Turkish. She's rightly paranoid as hell at the moment. My step brother (aged 50) passed away last night. Found in his bed in Somerset last night. I didnt really know him that well and just waiting to find out more. He did speak to my stepfather earlier in the week saying he felt unwell.
Blimey, sorry to hear that Bob, condolences to all , glad to Hear Mrs Bob is on the mend though, and yes my wife hasn’t left the house in about 6 weeks I think ( I’ve lost count ) as she is the original paranoid android to quote a phrase.

I lose interest after about the third line of most of Turkish’s rants but when he starts on about “middle managers” it just looks like some right wing Facebook meme. In his defence he didn’t go for the classic “£45k diversity manager” line.

I struggle to believe that hospitals are having vital deliveries which will save their staff’s lives and someone is saying no because it’s 12:01 and they have lunch from 12-1.

Honestly mate if you want to challenge every poster on here for spouting made-up nonsense then good luck to you. I’d start with Ellers and you’d clear about 70% of it.
Thanks for the ‘reply’ (even if it didn’t answer any part of my question - and it was a genuine question, not a ‘challenge’). And I’m not getting involved in the snide responses that are for the schoolyard. The ones that add real value to this horrible situation is what the thread is all about. The insights from people with real knowledge (thanks Beth and Stainsey), hearing real time views from people who are having to make decisions on working and the real challenges of not working and dealing with the changes to everyday life right now; those offering information on where they might get help; people contributing with their genuine analysis and explanatory challenges to the data - not just bashing and going on about ‘badges’ every other post. There are a lot of smart people here, with a lot to contribute. Just think we need to keep the bar high.
I’m no expert, so I am genuinely interested in what is happening. Not in individuals political leanings or point scoring.

Sorry to hear of your loss Bob.

Why keep blaming the ****ing government, try blaming the regional NHS trusts who would rather spend hundreds of thousands on unnecessary managers and middle managers each year than spend their budget on medical supplies.
Then everybody harping on about care homes not having enough PPE, 84% of all care homes are in the private sector, they are NOT run by the NHS, they are privately owned or run by corporations and DO NOT rely on the usual NHS supply chain, they source their PPE from the suppliers themselves and like most businesses they don’t stock large quantities of equipment which is dead money while it sits in a store room.
Now we move onto keeping hospitals supplied, again every body blaming the government, well here’s a news flash for those who don’t know, I have many friends in the haulage industry who are delivering to hospitals and NHS trusts and you CANNOT deliver goods to any hospital if they only open their goods in department between 9am and 3pm and are generally shut between 12-1 for dinner leaving a mere 5 hour window for deliveries, so when you have delays in loading and delays in earlier deliveries to other hospitals so when you finally arrive at a delivery point and it’s shut what do you do, just dump it on the ****ing doorstep, no you have to take it all the way back to the depot and try again the next day, it’s not the Government who are totally to blame their are many factors why deliveries aren’t being delivered and the biggest is asshole jobsworth goods in managers who won’t bend the rules and allow deliveries 24/7.
However the biggest problem is the simple fact that there are only so many suppliers and manufacturers of PPE and unless you haven’t noticed the whole fu*king world wants the same stuff and for the time being demand is outstripping supply which is rare and until the manufacturers increase production the sad fact is you cannot have what isn’t there.
Rant over.
Then why did the government say there is plenty to go round? And that a ‘Herculean effort’ would ensure that distribution worked? Who’s ****ing fault is them lying?

Who is ultimately accountable and responsible for the way this country deals with this pandemic?

Mmmm ... Incorrect I'm afraid ... Around about this time (14th Feb ) the British media (and public) were more concerned with the death of Caroline Flack and everyone was encouraging everyone else to be nice.

On 14th February the EU published a Rapid Risk Assessment. It included the following summary advice: 'THE RISK ASSOCIATED WITH SARS CoV-2 INFECTION FOR THE EU/EEA & UK POPULATION IS CURRENTLY LOW.'

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publi...y-syndrome-coronavirus-2-sars-cov-2-increased
And the WHO were telling us on 24 February that international travel was fine and we just need to wash our hands.

I’m never taking health advice from Roger Daltrey again. Won’t get fooled again? Balls.

Have you read it? I’m about halfway through.

Do you have an inside scoop on why I shouldn’t believe it?
I already know that there are a few holes starting to appear... especially about the Cobra meetings and our readiness. I will let everyone debate it to death without getting involved and wait for the truth or an apology from the paper. I must be honest when I first saw it posted I was shocked then I investigated.
Sorry yes I read breakdowns that were posted on line.

Fair post. In the interest of keeping the bar high I’d be keen to discuss the Sunday Times’ article in about three weeks when I’ve finished reading it.

It’s got something for everyone. China, Johnson, Brexit (apparently not the great stockpile saviour we’d been led to believe). And I’m only halfway in.

Ok. I appreciate this is likely to get as far as it ever does on your inside investigations, but what did you find? You aren’t obliged to answer but if you know something no one else does it’s more credible to say what it is.

I’m afraid you appear to be playing the blame game, and no matter what is done or said you will still look for a scapegoat !!!

It's regarding the assessment from WHO (i believe ) with respect to our preparation and readiness. Also, there are some questions regarding the COBRA meetings. As I said I will let you debate it.

Read the post again, wether there is enough to go round or not is ****ing immaterial if the assholes at the goods in at several hospitals won’t open their goods in departments to allow delivery, I could have a ****ing billion masks but if the door isn’t open how do I deliver them, one at a time through the ****ing letterbox.

Well kind of fake, it was someone who is responsible for procuring kit for the NHS. Still, poor journalism. Thank god we have something trustworthy and unbiased like the Mail to turn to. Not that they would want to distract from their competitions attack on the way Johnson handled the strategy. Sometimes Ellers I genuinely suspect that you post based on whatever Conservative Central Office instructs it’s minions to do.

Have you prepared your response to why we shouldn’t just copy what countries with a much lower death rate per million than us are doing? I know I probably gave too many potential comparators, I’ll make it simple for you, just one - New Zealand - English speaking island nation with a parliamentary democracy and love of liberty, easy to compare.

I’m afraid you appear to be playing the blame game, and no matter what is done or said you will still look for a scapegoat !!!
I just pointed out that the government lied about PPE, you blamed the NHS. Think you will be in a pretty small squad blaming that scapegoat, good luck with it.

Why not just say what you know that we don’t? Would save a lot of time.
