At the end of the day if Odubajo wants to sign for us and signs on the dotted line, then we have him, no matter what the clause says. Because he's saying he doesn't want to play for anyone else, just us. Which is why the 21 days thing is bollocks in the first place. Once there's a release clause that gets triggered, that's it. It's between us and the player.

This is the point I was trying to make on Saturday, and someone said that the club could just withhold the paper work and sell him to someone else????? I just let it go

Believe it was Odubajo's decision when he said that he wanted to close his contract with them

Maybe, if he has the power to overturn the delay clause. If he hasn't and we don't want to wait, we'll have to buy that part of the contract out if Brentford agree.

The 21 day thing to me sounds like a fuss about nothing to me.

Surely all it means is anyone else can bid in that time and the offer must be accepted. Brentford obviously want someone from the PL to come and bid which is understandable, but if he signs for us before then he's ours.

The question is can he sign for us or does he have to wait until the 21 days have elapsed. If he says he'll sign for nobody else he may still have to wait until the 21 days have elapsed. If the 21 days is legally binding and we want him to start on Saturday we have to buy out the clause in the contract. Easy money for Brentford if we do.

This is the bit that I think is a red herring.

I think if Brentford weren't trying to attract other clubs we wouldn't know about the clause, and that it's actually quite common.

Depends who the 21 days clause is for:
For the player - prevents him been forced to a club he doesnt want to go to (ie club agree to sellnhim to a club for X fee put he doesnt want to go there, his agent would have 21 days tonfind another club to match the fee)
For the club - the club have the clause to allow a bidding war to make the low clause to be increased.

Ultimately it will come down to the player and if he wants to come to us he will, if the club say XXX have come in for you and he says "no thanks, I will wait 21 days and go to city" then he will come to us.

I think both clubs will reach an agreement to over ride the clause ( maybe not give him the % of the transfer fee that he would recieve for moving, and city pay him that amount as a sign on fee)

He could just, you know, not sign a contract for the club he is 'being forced to'.

About this 21 days lark....
what if Brentford said we have a 4 million bid from say West Ham today and are you going to offer 4.5 or what? When really there's been no bid at all, who can prove or disprove it?
It's open to abuse and that's why I think it smells of male bovine stools.

QPR BID FOR BENTLEY
QPR
have made a bid for Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.
However, Southend insist the 22-year-old, who also attracted interest from Hull earlier in the widow, is not for sale.

I couldn't find a pic of a male bovine stool. Here is a sheepskin "Baastool", which are made in Wales. They come pre-shagged.

No they can't just lie, they'd get the book thrown at them by the FA and we'd sue the arses off them
