My 2nd choice behind Mad Mick but still not bad considering whats realistically available to us.Still wont believe it till the ink dried. He can only leave for a prem club if were flying next season by the way,and may consider us a better option than the likes of Wigan by then anyway.

Agreed. Mad Mick was my first choice so happy that Bruce as my 2nd choice looks to be the man. I just hope his time out of the game has improved his training methods. Ball work instead of endless running and running. No wonder Turner for one had so many knee problems. ;)

i think bruce would be a decent shout, certainly compared to some of the names out there! .
.

Indeed. Most of the names filled me with complete dread. At least Bruce has a good proven history and it also maintains the Man Utd links. Hiopefully stronger than ever now.

I know he has a bit of a reputation for spending money at other clubs with better means, but you have to assume he must have been promised a bit of a budget by the Allams.

Anyway, nothing official as yet, so still time for one or the other party to get cold feet.

If you think about where we are and where he has been, to be fair Steve Bruce as manager is a bit of a ku (sic)

The Allams have to give Bruce a good budget. No way will trying to do it on the cheap impress anyone. Bruce just needs to add to what we already have at the club come July 1st. imo.
ie. Vito - Elden - Gerrard would set the club back no more than £1m maybe less.

I'd say if I didn't know better that he's been lined up for a bit.
Honestly, can we please see a good wedge spent on bringing Turner home Mr Allam?

To be honest i dont see Turner leaving Sunderland this summer. If MT sees out his contract 2012/13 season then we can get him for nowt next summer. Anthony Gerrard is a FREE agent now so he would be my No.1 choice for sure.

Quite happy with Bruce (especially given the other suggested names), I do still find it very strange his agent went public to deny any contact only last Friday - why deny it, surely saying nothing would have been the better option.

It will be interesting to see how many of his back room staff come in, id be surprised if it was a lot, maybe just him and an assistant.

Let's hope the Allams give him so money to strength the key areas we need and that this time next year we will be looking forward to another Premiership season.

I like the way the silence has been deafening. Much better than the crazy days of Dufferman and Brown. Until the ink is dry though there is no news.

Will be interesting to see if Eric Black jumps out of the mess that is Blackburn Rovers.

Who wouldn't want out of that assylum though ? :emoticon-0116-evilg Utter madness and Blackburn could well struggle next season.imo.

Let's hope Bruce has some contacts left up his sleeve.

Hopefully Chester, Evans, Stewart and Dudgeon will like having a Man Utd legend as their boss.

What formation did Bruce play at previous clubs?

If Bruce does sign then we do have a big name manager taking over.

Bruce played both 4-4-2 and also 4-5-1. I dont see why much will or should change. All that needs improving on the field is the goals for. Now for another goal scorer please ? :emoticon-0103-cool:

It would be nice to think the contacts / scouting network he worked with at Wigan, which was excellent, will now be available to us.

Wonder what Rodallega is upto at the moment? :emoticon-0129-call::emoticon-0137-clapp:emoticon-0136-giggl

So far not many have shown much interest which surprises me. But Rodallega will ebnd up in the PL or abroad. imo.

Could Craig Gordon to city be worth a crafty fiver?

Oh no, Please Noooooooooooooooooo. Surely the club will still go for Vito and Elden especially if Gary Walsh stays as GK coach ?

Huge coup if true. Shame he'll probably be gone well before January, when some poor soul loses their job ridiculously early in the season.

I don't like the guy, and I believe many are in the same boat, but it's still a fantastic appointment.

Well IF Bruce does come and then go he will have been doing a great job here and it will be far easier to get a replacement in. I dont see Bruce jumping ship that early as he needs a promotion on his CV after his sacking.

Nick Barmby...

Sadly that ship has sailed, but it should still be well tied to the quayside. imo also.

I'm going for Blackpool away, being an August game and being moved to Monday night.

How about Charlton Athletic @ Home on August 18th ? No tv - full house and a good home win to start us off with ?
Blackpool away on B/H monday sounds good though ? <cheers><cheers>

I could see Turner coming back, but Campbell? I wouldn't mind if he did come back but I can't see it!

Yes to Turner next summer but noway Campbell..... ever. imo.

The only way I can see Turner coming here is IF we sell Chester, which we won't.

Why the need to sell Chester ? Unless Sunderland sell him cheap imo Turner will see out his contract.

We really do need an Allams sticky on the board

Why do we ? <whistle> Just asking like.

It seems unlikely, but Bruce has a fair bit of pulling power and he originally signed Campbell from under our noses didn't he ?

Agreed. What people seem to overlook is that Campbell signed for Sunderland over us purely because it was him rather than Brown. Now I'm not saying this means he will come back, just that it's reasurring that players think highly of him and would want to sign for him.

Is that true? The higher wages, the bigger club and a better chance of being in the premier league 1/2/3 years down the line had nothing to do with his decision?

MATT DEAN sportseditor of Humberside radio has just said on the Burnsie show that.........

He expects a press conference tomorrow-Friday to unveill Bruce.

Bruce IN !

All the **** about him jumping ship can or could apply to any manager or player on the planet..

Course your not being serious

Great appointment if true, well done the allams on showing ambition aaaaaannnnnnd getting the business side of things sorted :)

be interesting to see what bruce thinks of our current squad, and who he intends on bringing in. iiiiff appointed of course

Okay, so taking a huge leap as far as assuming Bruce is signed.

How about....

Flog Stewart to Celtic/Leicester/Boro for, say, £3m then lump in a bit more cash, say £1-2m and put in an offer for Campbell. Sounds like a decent value upgrade to me.

Are you totally mad or what ? ffs, get over Campbell. He is history thankfully.

Fraizer Campbell was in the england squad earlier this year. There's absolutely no chance he'll be coming back here any time soon.

Only because England were struggling for strikers. FC would not get a look in when everyone is fit and available.

Campbell probably wouldn't get a look in with England at the moment, I'd agree with that.

He has, however, got the potential to be knocking on the door regarding the England squad in the near future so he isn't going to be dropping down to the Championship.

I appreciate you haven't said he would but some have ( jokingly????) implied a move could be on the cards should Bruce be our next manager.

I say 'should' because until he's signed up I'm still weary, very weary.
