Well said ... its makes a very interesting read and I love the formation stuff with in my eyes Flyer is king without doubt ... it's brilliant stuff and he gets my vote as the best entertainer on here
Hughes said Traore, Diakite and Zamora are all doubts. Cisse is best played as a 2nd striker where he is deadly but our squad is set up for a 4231 because we have so many attacking midfielders. So we either play to our strengths and not play Cisse in his best position or play a formation that our squad is not suited too.
Can't disagree with the 4231, however with the players we now have I can see us switching to 433 more often than not and I think will become a real feature of our playing style. And would use 433 for tomoz
Sorry flyer your not explaining why you think 4 -2-3-1 won't work with Cisse up front. I'm just interested really. DT thinks there are no such thing as formations in modern football, the manager just tells them to go out and play
I do not at all but I can tell that we are only talking about how a team lines up its that simple each player will have a task to do and will be expected to do that ... example defending set pieces, counter attacks etc... The term that Col and Flyer should be using is starting 11 and i posted what i thought the starting 11 would be. The formation of the team i repeat will depend on the opposition and venue. I have always made the clear point that so far I haven't read one theory that allows for players to cross the park or wide players interchanging. to write down 11 names as a start then guess what is about to happen is IMO one step up from subbuteo or a air head Fifa computer game. Even when i played we were more advanced than that. Formations are changed and adapted to the flow of the game every manager and team has a theoretical Plan A, Plan B etc etc. I am hoping the starting 11 may line up like this Green Onuoha, Ferdinand, Nelson, Fabio Diakete SWP............Park...........Hoilett Taarabt Cisse
I'd go with that "starting 11" Dave, possibly replacing SWP with Mackie. I've always said that any formation is fluid and your 4-1-3-1-1 will morph into many variations of 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-2-3-1 as the game, venue and opposition dictates.
Anyone who watches games saw us defend very rigidly with 2 banks of 4 when we lost possession. Formations arent about where the players are when you have the ball, its how you defend. Cisse is a 2nd striker, he needs someone to feed off. Unless you are a world class team, playing one up front requires the forward to help relieve pressure by holding up the ball like Zamora and HH would have done. Playing Cisse up front removes the aerial threat which means we only have 1 plan and that is to play through teams and weve seen how easy that is to foil because we do it against Swansea all the time.
Exactly what I was going to say, its officially official now. Good job too if Traore is out, means Fabio can play LB.
I thought he had to be signed by 12pm, problem is I think the deadline might be today and not tomorrow.
