Mutch? Could be the english name on that medical list Rackem was on about? If we get those three in then Congerton and Poyet were spot on in persistence and patients in the transfer market as we'll have landed three of our main targets of the summer.

I'd feel a lot better with them 3 lined up.

I heard a mad one earlier that Lescott might be coming here, trying to get out of his WBA contract apparently?

Wrote it off as ****e like.

So our midfield now consists of Giac, Borini, Johnson, Jordi Gomez, Catts, Bridcutt, Larsson.

The first 4 will find a pass and score goals. The last 3 will be defensive primarily with Larsson chucking the occasional decent ball into the box.

Goalies are sorted. Now's time to shore up the defence (Alonso yes and we have Billy Jones, but need cover, and some CBs...).

And someone upfront who understands the midfield.

Alonso was also my number 1 signing before Borini, I also think he is over priced but with the extra TV money clubs got last year maybe why the market is high.
We still need cover at fullbacks and centre halls then I'll be happy

Has he signed yet?

Sunderland, torna Borini: i dettagli dell'operazione con il Liverpool http://fb.me/6BcyWubG7
@ramborob2001
@safcsource, @DiMarzio reckons payment for borini will be spread out over 3yrs and is £12m fee + £2m add ons, borini up for move

After making a huge success of his loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season, Fabio Borini has been at the top of almost all Sunderland's fan transfer wishlists. However it looked like a transfer that may take some time to come to fruition, as we waited for Liverpool to strengthen their team after they qualified for the Champions League and the sale of Luis Suarez.

That wait may not go on much longer though, with widespread reports tonight that Sunderland have agreed a fee of up to £14m (£12m+add-ons) for the Italian striker, who should be due in the North East over the weekend to talk personal terms and undergo a medical.

Brendan Rodgers had wanted to keep the 23-year-old but with the player wanting first team football and a return to the Stadium of Light, Sunderland increasing the previous £10m offer for Borini was enough to convince Liverpool to sell.

Borini scored 10 goals for Sunderland last season, including vital goals home and away against Newcastle, a stoppage time equaliser against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup quarter-final and a critical late winner from the penalty spot against the same opponents at Stamford Bridge.

Should he complete his move, it will equal the club record fee Sunderland paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for Steven Fletcher and will be a massive statement of intent and show of faith in Borini and Gus Poyet from Ellis Short.

People complain Ellis is a tightarse and needs to open the purse strings, then when there is a rumor of 14million for a player whos name we cheered last year, will come into the team without needing to settle - and we are complaining? I want Borini at the SoL, the guy is 23, hungry, and can finish. His record is from the wing, which is impressive. It's not my money, if Ellis thinks we can spend 14million, then who am i to say no? Great investment imo.

Yip! I dont really care what we pay for who so long as we are bringing folk in + fabio comes with his own celebration, thats got to be worth the add-ons alone

Nearly stotted my cup off the telly there like, ****ing ssn making out borrini is a liverpool flop instead of a sunderland success, ****ing livid!!!

Good signing, bit expensive maybe?
Still, I would like to have had him as back up striker, but fair play to Borini, he wants regular action. I hope he does well with you.

Technically, isn't he both. He hardly featured for Liverpool but he did do well for you.

For what it is worth, the TV money has inflated prices somewhat but you have made a cracking signing. It shouldn't have eaten up your entire budget as I am positive you would have had a "maximum price in mind" as to not affect the purchasing of other targets.

Who knows what gus negotiated in his contract talks but would imagine he would have said to ellis, i want borrini on a permanent deal, doubt he's even in the budget, gus held all the aces after last season and will have been given financial assurances, so god knows what we are upto mate

Is it not that Migs & Hendo's add ons have been wiped? Approx £2 mil each I believe. Sort of brings the price more into the range we thought it would be and not the £14 mil being reported.

It will be a £14m deal mate, made up of all sorts

In today's crazy pricing, I fail to see why some fans are getting upset.

He knows and fits our system, straight off the bat.
He is young, positive and energetic - he gives a ****
He is cool Asa a cucumber under pressure
He has much to learn, and to improve on as a player. Under Gus, he could develop into a top, top player with a significant sell on value

It all makes sense to me. Just get Alonso, Vergini, Mutch and a new CB and I'll be content. Add a 'special player' on top and I'll be happy as Larry.

The lad was a big success at sunderland last season regardless of the fee if he signs I'll be over the moon.

Also every penalty we get next season is a goal.

Cheers Ellis

I can only see this close season's signings being a good thing. It's about tine we went about things slowly, but surely. In the past few seasons, the wholesale changes have caused a lot of our problems. This is the way we need to be doing things - adding 4-5 players to our squad.

In particular, I can only see the signing of Borini as a positive. And remember, he's only 23.
