We didn't have a TV until about 1958 but my earliest memories are of listening to the wireless. An old valve set driven by an accumulator that the grocer took away every week to recharge. My very earliets recollection is listening to Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run sung by Flanagan and Allen. I also remember workers playtime and preparing sunday lunch listening to Family favourites.

That old radio had a beautiful tone and although everything was mono the music was wonderful.

I remember watching the very first episode of Coronation Street and Cliff Michelmore (from the IoW) on Tonight was a far better television presenter than old Fred "Dustbin" Dinenage will ever be. My children used to like Geoffrey Johnson Smith as thay said he spoke like me!

I see Fergusson has unleashed the new FA respect campaign against Alan Pardew, who is also never short of a controversy!

A complete joke. Who the hell does Ferguson think he is? Did you see him shouting in the linesman's ear when the Evans own goal was (rightly) given! Ferguson has no right to complain about other managers touchline behavior when his is the worst in the league.

Ferguson is the defintion of hypocrisy. Cannot stand the man.

Lot of respect for Ferguson as a football manager, but the bloke is an absolute ****.

Agree he's a great manager but his reputation is such now that he gets away with too much IMO. If another manager had behaved like that there would have been a touchline ban at the very least.

he Football Association has written to Harry Redknapp and Roberto Mancini over their criticism of referees.
QPR boss Redknapp spoke of "scandalous" decisions in the 2-1 Premier League defeat by West Brom on Boxing Day.
Manchester City boss Mancini accused officials of missing a foul on Pablo Zabaleta in the build-up to Adam Johnson's winner in the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.
Both could be charged with improper conduct.
The FA sent letters to both managers, requesting their observations on their post-match comments.

So they get letters and Fergie get's nothing!

I have to agree, he has built his empire at Manure with a paranoid seige mentality and unbearable arrogance which is displayed throughout the club and its' supporters, his jibe at "little Newcastle" was pathetic as is his assertion that everyone hates them because they're "the most famous club in the world".
Compare that to Nigel Adkins' all inclusive "together as one" mantra and who rarely complains about the opposition or officials and always takes defeat with good grace and honesty.

Sadly, as only a nipper, my earliest television memories are of this:

I am always amazed at just how good the sound quality is with television.

The trouble is playing the sound back through the TV means a very poor amp and lousy speakers but wire it up to a sound system and it is amazing.

Dave Brailsford is very deserving of his. What he's achieved with Team GB and Sky Pro cycling is fantastic.

In the documentory's he's been in the little phrases he uses makes him a lot like our Nige. "Marginal gains" is a quality phrase and way of improving performance.

Dafaq? Destroy the economy and receive a knighthood in return?

Not so much "destroy the economy" as "not do enough to prevent banks destroying the economy" but still, I can't fathom what he could possibly have done to deserve a knighthood. I'm not going to go as far as criticizing him for ****ing the economy, as I don't know enough about his role in it, but his tenure was hardly a successful one. It seems equivalent to giving Jan Poortvliet a statue outside St Mary's.
