We didn't have a TV until about 1958 but my earliest memories are of listening to the wireless. An old valve set driven by an accumulator that the grocer took away every week to recharge. My very earliets recollection is listening to Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run sung by Flanagan and Allen. I also remember workers playtime and preparing sunday lunch listening to Family favourites.
That old radio had a beautiful tone and although everything was mono the music was wonderful.
I remember watching the very first episode of Coronation Street and Cliff Michelmore (from the IoW) on Tonight was a far better television presenter than old Fred "Dustbin" Dinenage will ever be. My children used to like Geoffrey Johnson Smith as thay said he spoke like me!
