totally agree Theo. but to get a centre half of that quality on Free is a No Brainer surely ?

Hoobs and Chester, Gerrard and Ayala. Not a bad looking double pairing is it for 2012/13.

but if this quality is in demand, then he wont come free. salaries are more important to the finances of clubs such as us than transfers these days

FREE as in free transfer. thats a massive help especially to us. Gerrards wages wont be as much as what City are paying to Ghilas to do nowt as an example.

Anyone following Anthony Gerrards twitters at the moment ? for those who are Do you get a feel that he aint that happy being back @ Cardiff City ? he is always going on about boring training and keeping tabs on Mclean. Maybe AP and Hull City have got something arrnged for next summer when AG is out of contract ? I've nothing concrete on this,
just a hunch. Will be keeping tabs of AG tweetings for anymore clues.

I only skip read this earlier and thought you were talking about Anthony Gardner. I was thinking to myself why would you even consider it <doh>

If we get Ayala I don't think we need him whether he's free or not

They're not entitled to much in the way of compo, he went through the Sevilla academy, he's only been at Liverpool since they released him as an 18 year old. Just because Liverpool want £1m for him, it doesn't mean we should pay it, if no-one else is in for him and we're the only offer on the table, then we're likely to get a good deal.

Yes, but half the asking price? It's a strange one because now it's in the domain clubs like Leicester who are actively looking for another centre half, could nip in. I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate over £1m, hell they paid about £2.5m over the odds for mills!!!!

He's not worth not having for the sake of £200k or so. Unless the hastily arranged friendly is also linked to this transfer?

This has everything to do with Allam's, our business was done, but we lost Macca, Killer has left, Cooper's out on loan until January and we were told that Ayala was available if we want him. We want to pay £500k, Liverpool want £1m, I assume we'll meet somewhere in the middle, but the Allam's have had to stick in this extra money.

This was so stupid. Everyone on this board pointed out we had 2 CBs and McShane, if we got an injury we were ****ed.

Oh look what happens before the season even starts <doh>

If we get a sniff of someone else being in the running, we may well up the offer a bit, but at the moment that doesn't seem to be the case. There may be interest from elsewhere, but it won't be from Leicester, they already have three first choice centre backs in Mills, Bamba and St Ledger and cover beyond that, they're only actively seeking a striker as far as I know.

I suspect we'll end up paying about £700k for him, but if no-one else comes in for him, we may still get away with the offer already submitted.

St Ledger! Ha they def need another!

Skrytl's broke down in training after missing the preseason. Maybe a possible reason for the hold up, Dalglish needs cover?
