I know what you are saying about there being a fine line between possession football and negative football, but in general I think that a lot of saints fans don't see it, they expect us to constantly be attacking. I am aware that me posting on here about it is futile though, as the majority of people on here understand football and arent the type to shout constant abuse at our own players.

I echo your sentiments...........It is a minority in general that do not necessarily see the finer points of football. As most of the remarks on here confirm, as they are complaining about the remarks heard and the moans and groans expressed. As they say though it takes all sorts to make up a community and Saints supporters are no different!

I too sit amongst a little group of Guly haters and they well and truly get on my tits. I cheer Guly at every opportunity but they shout abuse at his slightest error and yet will forgive other players who make far worse mistakes.

Our Nigel picks him and seems to give him free reign to roam wherever on the pitch and he works his socks off for us.

If we go up this season we will have a whole squad to thank but five players in particular have done it for me and they are Kelvin, Morgan, Guly, Lambert and Lallana.

All the rest have been bit part players and they hve done their bit but these five have given their all.

I bet if you were able to see Nigel draw up his team sheet for match days those five names would be the first pencilled in.

Like others on here I can only conclude that as some of our fans cannot appreciate what Guly does for the team they must never have played football themselves.

We are bloody lucky to have him.

You forgot Jos godders <ok> , add him to that lot and that about covers it.

For me our top 3 performers this season would be Lambert, Richardson and Jos, although saying that the whole squad/management been absolutely brilliant!

Which leads them to being completely clueless, and booing/whinging when a single pass doesn't get made, or getting restless during periods of our possession. Getting on the players backs will never, ever be a good thing.

Along with most women of my age, I have never played football in my life. Using your disgusting male chauvenist logic, I guess I have no business supporting a football team or even watching football, right? Best get us icky women out of the stadia right? Interesting that I left these boards because I was more optomistic than most of the men here (and look what has happened in the two months since) - but I guess being a female who has never played football means I don't know what I am talking about, right?

You're not related to Andy Gray are you?

Woah woah woah get off of your "men are all sexist" high horse. Where the F*** did I mention women any where in my post? Get over yourself love

I was simply deriding the people that know nothing about football, and moan when we play possession football.

I am NOT your "love" you patronising prat. And to quote YOU...."I think that 90% of "fans" have never actually played football before. ..... Which leads them to being completely clueless, and booing/whinging when a single pass doesn't get made, or getting restless during periods of our possession". So using your logic, the vast majority of women are completely clueless.

And I am not saying men are sexist - I am saying YOU are sexist. Just because I have never played the game doesn't mean I don't know a lot about it. And clearly a lot more than you do - so that kind of refutes your argument doesn't it?

I can't be bothered to reply to you, you're a complete idiot.

If you want to imagine sexist undertones in my post go ahead.

Racist?! jesus christ give me strength!!!!

What does that mean exactly, on a Forum like this you will get a wide variety of opinionated people, and I have mentioned in the past that some of the comments made, were fairly obviously down to a jealousy of the fine sun tans some players have, thankfully it is a small minority and we all know it ain't Saintly, so don't do it..

Steady people, no need for this, just agree to differ and cheer up, we are top of the League don't forget. Nothing sexist, racist or butterkist about that, just a fact, enjoy it.

While I don't necessarily agree with his point, its quite obvious that there was nothing even remotely sexist in Southamptons 7&11's post. He merely said that fans who have never played the game are less likely to understand certain tactical moves. The fact that you associate those who have never played the game with women makes you the sexist if anything

I'll tell you what else can't help the players, seeing streams and streams of people leaving with 5 - 10 minutes to go! it's happening far too often now and it even gets noticed by the away support! for christ sake if you haven't got a valid reason for leaving other than bloody traffic beating don't leave!

I know it is annoying, but its a thread that has been done to death, believe me, the majority of early leavers have their reasons to do so, just accept it, you may have to do the same yourself one day. When I am on Night shift for an evening kick off, I should leave early to get to work on time, fortunately I have some workmates who cover for me until I get there, often up to thirty minutes late, especially if those barriers at Mount Pleasant are down for a long time!

It means why the hell has it got to be racist if someone criticises Gulys performance? honestly that opinion is quite frankly pathetic and embarrassing!

I have said in the past about people having commitments but literally thousands of people streamed out on Saturday,no-one is gonna tell me they all had to work or lived up north,it's a disgrace and if i want i'll say it every week!!! alot of things have been done to death on here but it still gets said cos it's important.Don't tell me not to mention it! i think it's an important issue, something that doesn't help the players one little bit!!!

So to cap it off, Saints Fans are Racist, Sexist Mongy Bellends that Bitch all the time and leave early <ok> <laugh>

I know some fans get a bit frustrated by the passing along the back line, which I could understand if we were 2-0 down and running out of time. The times that I have seen Saints do that, we have been well ahead and crucially not under a great of pressure. It causes the opposition to expend energy chasing after the ball, frustrates a demoralises then and often brings a foul via that frustration. That I have no problem with at all, indeed anyone who say the Barcelona game this week would have seen exactly the same thing. I am not a great fan of taking the ball into the corner and running down the clock that way as it just seems so cynical. The alternative which does cause me great frustration is when we do not have the game won, and Kelv or the defence pumps ball after ball upfield, giving away possession every time. That is what frustrates me.

As far as the racism is concerned, I am pleased that I have never heard any overt racism at St Marys. I am sure that there are racists there, but hopefully they will know that they are not welcome. What I do notice on this board though, is an erosion of the courtesy which was more commonplace. There is a creeping tendency for some to respond to a difference of opinion with a personal attack. I don't know why this has happened. Most of us have never met each other (although I have met Beddy, and he is just a nice as you probably imagine him) so I would like to see less bad-mouthing of the players at the game, and also each other on here. we are all Saints, after all.<ok>

Fair enough, but I think you are on a loser there, it is a human trait, must get to the front of the queue, must get to the train first for a seat, must get on the bus first as I don't want to stand, or sometimes in my case, must get to the loo before I pee myself, lots of reasons.

Good point, I would rather try reason (even when I am wrong) than a load of unwarranted abuse, which never has the desired effect.

I can still remember that game where we were winning with minutes to go and Crouch ran on goal and lost possession and the opposition scored. That was a defining game in our relegation year. Wish he'd gone and held it by the corner flag.
