yes all racism is bad. but:
1) racism against black people is much more common than racism against white people, especially at football grounds.
2) prejudice directed at a minority is more damaging than prejudice directed against the majority, because of the difference in power between those groups.
3) racism against black people has led to a lot of horrible things in the past. the same is not true of racism against white people.
Racially motivated attacks are proportonally more prevalent against white people(considering the small percentage of non-white population). For a small section of society the non-white population manages to carry out an impressive level of hate crime.
even if this was true (and it isn't), it still wouldn't matter. the total amount of racial abuse suffered by white people in this country (and all over the world tbh) pales into insignificance compared with the racial abuse suffered by people of other races. this doesn't excuse racism by anybody, but it does mean that you have to understand racism directed against non-white people in a different context. this isn't difficult to grasp, but i'm always amazed by the hoops people will jump through to try and defend this barmy idea that everyone is equally affected by racism.
hi to all, btw. i've been reading and enjoying this forum all season but perversely decided that this would be a good thread to make my first posts on. i guess i like arguing![]()
i'm not bashing anybody (apart from racists).
i've already agreed with you several times that all racism is bad. all i've been trying to explain is that not all racist statements carry an equal amount of power. in a country where most people are white, a racist statement against a non-white person needs to be understood in a different context from a racist statement against a white person. this isn't rocket science.
for the record i also don't approve of people killing each other because of their religion. i'm against killing, generally.

those areas still exist within a national culture which is dominated by white people. you have to try really, really hard to feel discriminated against as a white person in the uk.
That's not the point tho, Just because as a nation there are more white people. Dosn't mean a white person can not be discriminated against in a mainly black/asian community.
I think there is a big mix up as to what people deem as being racialist. A lot have commented on here on the fact they seem to think racialism as about black versus white. This is only the tip of the ice berg in reality. Chinese are not black or in fact the Japanese the Koreans or the Russia's. Yet a lot of these nations suffer a lot of racial abuse. (I am not talking about Mother Russia by the way more it's old satellite country's) Russia is probably a lot worse at racial abuse than many countries mind you they would call it nationalism. Which then opens another can of worms. Reality, Racialism is not as straight forward as you think!!
Can't we all agree that ALL forms of racism are wrong, and can never be "positive" or less wrong than others?
