After Gus Poyet was relieved of his duties earlier today, Sunderland have moved quickly to appoint his successor, with Dick Advocaat due to be officially confirmed as the club's new Head Coach tomorrow.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Advocaat confirmed the deal was only for the remainder of the season;

I'm still in a dark hotel, but [will] work soon at the Stadium of Light

It is initially purely for this season.

He says we will take one game at a time but is well aware of the problems he has facing him at Sunderland;

There are many injured [players] and then [after the international break when injured players return] we're going to experience one game at a time.

The 67-year-old is looking forward to finally managing in the Premier League for what he calls a '"very big club";

This is what I always wanted to do again, the Premier League. That remains a phenomenal competition.

As a coach you want to still work, that continues to draw.

West Ham United await on Saturday, then there is the international match break and then the derby with Newcastle United.

That's really something to look forward to, because believe me. This is just a very big club

Advocaat has nine games to save the club from relegation and, with no deal in place for him to remain beyond the end of the season, Sunderland are likely to find themselves back on the managerial merry-go-round in the summer, regardless of their fate.

"He will be joined at the Stadium of Light by Zeljko Petrovic as first team coach and former Swansea and England under-20 goalkeeping coach, Adrian Tucker. Sunderland AFC academy coach Paul Bracewell will also support the head coach and his backroom team for the final nine games of the season."

Very pleased to see Bracewell coming in, what a great pro.

Looking forward to his first interview later today

just been reading up on Dick - His nickname is "The Little General" - so hopefully he'll take our players to task- be specific in what's required from them and not allow them to dictate 'their own terms' as seems to be said often regarding our team, he's managed some 'big named players' in the past especially so with the Dutch national team -I'm feeling a lot more positive and so now that we'll start to make some movement up the League table

Not a bad cv, loads of experience, but not in the PL!!!

This is my immediate concern, he's walking into a bar-fight with no real experience of our league and no real knowledge or insights into any of our upcoming opponents.

For me this is another high-risk appointment.

I have to say it doesn't really excite me but we'll see what the bloke can do.

He's probably as good as we could have got at this point, Billy. It could have been a lot worse, to be fair, there are some poor english managers out there at the minute.

I just hope his experience can translate to the PL in double-quick time!

3 wins! Thats his target, 3 wins!
