    The only option mate.

I'm sure as he will be unavailable we can suspend his salary too, let's remember this is comfortably our highest paid player.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? ****ing sucks for us and Johnno, we obviously can't play him until a verdict is reached. If we go down and it turns out to all be bullshit, will the lass be liable to reimburse the club for the £70m+ losses?

I thought Defoe took that mantle? Could be a blessing in disguise, some of our promising youngsters might actually get a run out. Then again, this is Poyet... I look forward to Wickham and Buckley on the wings for the remainder of the season.

Do you want a "rapist" playing for the club? Do you want to be known as the club that stayed up as a result of a "pedophile's" goals?

I'd sooner go down than be tarnished as that club for the next forty years.

AJ's contract is massive mate, he got a pay out from City to reduce what we paid him but it's still supposedly 70k a week, wasn't Defoe supposedly given 55k?

Or will you take it out off his wages for being so stupid as to get himself into such a position in the first place

The cops must have a good reason to arrest him, as opposed to "help with their enquiries". Looks grim, but if he can't pull on his wages he must have the personality of a flatfish...

No mate, I said we clearly can't play him until an outcome is reached. Was just thinking in "what ifs", we've no idea whether he did it or it's some girl trying to make a quick buck.

70k <yikes> didn't realise it was that high!!

"get himself into the position"? for all we know he's done nowt wrong...

Johnson remains in custody and is helping police with their enquiries.

Sunderland, who signed Johnson from Manchester City in August 2012, have suspended Johnson pending the outcome of the investigation.

    More to follow...

I think we're better off taking a hard line (wrongly) and going down than leaving him be (wrongly) and staying up.

    Just me.

England and Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Durham Police said a 27-year-old had been arrested earlier on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under 16, and remained in police custody.

Sunderland AFC said he had been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.

News of the arrest of a Premier League footballer was revealed earlier in The Sun newspaper.

The Sunderland-born winger has also played for Middlesbrough and Manchester City, and represented his country 12 times.

He was due to travel with the team to east Yorkshire for Tuesday night's fixture at Hull.

Sunderland said it would make no further comment on the arrest.

Something we could well have done without, this looks bad for AJ and his future must be in doubt, what an idiot.
