As good as he was I can’t have that he was World Class, if that was true why didn’t he ever play for one of the European giants? Nah.

It's obviously a matter of personal opinion but in my view he was one of the few England players in my lifetime that was as good in his position as anybody in the world at that time ...

European Giants? ... who did Gerrard join or Lampard. Beckham was passed his best when he joined Real.

Ashley Cole had a very successful career and it could be argued that he never needed to join a 'European giant' ... he's won titles, cups and a Champions League ...

Plus, and no disrespect meant, I'm not entirely sure that having to learn foreign languages and adapt to a different cultures would have been as easy for Ashley as some others ...
