These players look look to have some good qualities and are potentially good signings in their own right.

But my concern is that instead of signing a few key ready-to-go players, we're signing a mishmash.

A mishmash in pre-season has time to gel, become a group, get fit etc etc.

This lot are straight into a relegation battle, one were likely we need at least 25 pts from 20 games.

We’ve got a decent enough 11, we need some final third quality. We are doing a decent job of spreading out the risk. Crooks, Gelhardt, Joseph are all capable of getting 3/4 before the season finishes. Add in current players also contributing it should be enouhh

How tall were makelele and kante?

Kanté's a funny one. His relentless energy and ball-carrying abilities made him more suited to a box-to-box role as a number 8, in my opinion. His tackling and reading of the game was great but he was almost always partnered next to a more physical midfielder.

Our current problem is that most of our midfielders are really small.

Sorba Thomas seems the obvious choice for the experienced championship winger. Seems a very complex deal to do as he’s out on loan, which would explain the delay, and he’s also got vast amounts of experience

On the other hand - our recent form is ok so the players we have are keeping us in it for now.

If they can continue that whilst these players gel - we might end up with a better side for the money spent then if we went for more expensive seasoned Champ players.

Time will tell I guess.

I hope so. We desperately need some pace, and with every new signing, we manage to bring down the squad's average speed stats.
